Halflings
News of the existence of the Savage Basin has just reached the distant ports and capitals of the world; however, for the halflings who live there, it has been their home for thousands of years. In that time they have become masters of jungle life, but never masters of their jungle home. A few elven scholars have succeeded in learning some of their language, and through it they have learned of the halflings' harsh life within the dense jungles of the Savage Basin. Halfling society centers around the safety of the high tree-top villages of vine and wood. However even in these havens, the halflings fear the ultimate predators of the woods, the Beastbloods, the Shifters. The halfling lot in life has only grown worse with the discovery of the Savage Basin by the orcs. Shifter raids have increased as the demand for slaves by the Three Lands climbs higher and higher. Despite the halflings' claims of being descendants of a proud and powerful people, in this age, their lot in life is a tough one.

Basic Information
Anatomy
Halflings are a small, furtive race. Fine featured and lightly bones, they appear like miniature medium to dark-complected elves. Of course any elf would take offense at the comparison between themselves and these simple, dirty folk. If you can ever catch one and wash him up, they have angular features with pointed ears and almond eyes. Hair and eye colors tend to be brown to black and there is a general lack of body hair.
Growth Rate & Stages
Halflings mature at rates comparable to humans, reaching adulthood at 20 but live longer reaching 120 to 140 years. Though given their dangerous homeland and high rate of enslavement, the number able to die of old age is vanishingly few.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Halflings have keen senses, the equal of any elf or gnome. Non-elves are quick to point out this potential link, elves are quick to tell non-elves to mind their own business.

- Suggested Backgrounds: Given the rampant slavery of their race and their natural skill at stealth, an escaped halfling could easily become a Criminal. A wild, or at least wild-born, halfling would have been raised far from "civilization" and thus be an Outlander. Even a freed halfling could easily become an Urchin begging for their next meal.
