Combat Uniforms
Can turn aside a blade...and it breathes like Egyptian cotton!
Thangiens are no stranger to battle, be it First Contact, the City-Strife, the Siege of Bainshaebo, or the Battle of Banguk. Because their fighting techniques require mobility, agility, and comfort, full-body armor suits them poorly. On the Oldworld, they might not stand out too much from a Renaissance Faire, but unlike their Rennie countarparts, Thangien wear must be functional as well as fashionable. Made using a combination of treated leather, thinly-hammered dererium, and reinforced cloth, no two outfits are the same and each one reflects the wearers' personality as well as profession. Whether it's the baggy thermal wear of miners in the North or the rawhide and woven grass of a Freelander, nearly every Thangien dresses to impress...and more.
Manufacturing process
Outfits must be assembled by a skilled tailor, preferably of great repute from the Pavilion.
History
Reinforced fabric forms the base of any combat uniform. First developed as part of a collaboration between Deres and Eyurodin, originally such outfits were supposed to protect Thangiens in everyday work whether farming, smithing, or stabling. Even the flowing robes of stuffy scribes are designed to guard against dropped pen nibs or styluses. This is primarily crafted using grasses harvested from the banks of the Winding White and processed and refined several times for maximum lightness and durability. Leather is used most often for boots, bracers, or belts and occasionally dererium for bracers, shoulders, or decorative collars. Jewelry is optional but typically only incorporated by wealthier individuals.
Outfits cannot be purchased "off the rack" and instead must be either assembled from scratch from existing components or made on order by a tailor or leatherworker. There are multitudes of such artisans present in the Pavilion and a discerning warrior could spend days trying to create a garb that suits them perfectly.

Significance
Combat uniforms can range from the simple to the complex and are not just fashion for Thangiens, but protection. Even the farmers of the Lonesteads wear variations to protect them as they work. The medics of the Traedeskaton wear garments of white but numerous variations in stitching. Even King Torke's regalia, for all its patterned embroidery, is modeled after a riding duster to protect him while mounted. While primarily associated with Thangiens, occasionally Oldworlders will craft garments of their own in much the same manner, such as Chi Chi Line, Shainie's outfit which combines Thangien elements and Oldworlder style, or Captain Caroline Wendell's outfit which bears heavy Egyptian influences and adornments.
Perhaps the only group native to Thanged who don't wear combat uniforms are the River-Men of the Southern Salt. This could be because they simply don't worry about having to fight or because the marsh is too sticky for the finery associated with their city-born cousins. They prefer looser fitting clothes and the only heavy boots they wear are meant to keep their legs and feet dry on the rare occasions they have to trudge through the water.
