Age Of Defiance WorldEmber Homework 2025

Well this is a bit late to the party. Fall's been a nonstop rollercoaster of burning the candle at both ends and November certainly wasn't any different. Alot of personal goals went uncompleted and in the past 6 months since I moved I've only been able to complete 2 full-color vectorized illustrations. I haven't been able to do any work on editing FFAW Pt. 1 and I haven't been able to do new season-specific artwork either. Funnily enough I have more new artwork for Pt. 2 than Pt. 1. I FINALLY got the chance to write out Chapter 1 of Season 6 but I'm abstaining from posting it currently because I'd like a nice tidy batch of chapters to post simultaneously, at least 3 chapters of season 6 and 1 chapter of Yulie's Tales which ties into events going on. Season 6 officially kicks off the Three Wars mega-arc which AoD has been building to for a very long time. Fanfiction.net has made great strides in battling the plague of AI scambot slop-monkeys, but they're persistent pests, and I'm fairly certain the problem won't be permanently resolved until the botfarms hosting said slop-monkeys in certain sh**hole countries are nuked from orbit and the operators have their extremities broken by Irish gangsters...

1.Worldbuilding Playlist

I have my tried and true favorite playlists but for my streaming sessions I've added tracks provided by a dear friend of mine from Australia who does his own music.   Puretech's Soundcloud Page   He does wonderful work and I look forward to showcasing more of his work as he composes more. It's a worthy substitute for one of my long-time playlists which I unfortunately had to retire due to severe changes cutting both multiple long-published tracks and aggressive and increasingly hostile changes Youtube's made that impair my personal creative workflow experience.   Speaking of changes....
World Anvil Changes are not good. This is why...
Generic article | Nov 5, 2025
They suck. Chrispy0's put together a wonderful analysis and breakdown of detrimental changes made to World Anvil's UI this past year. In the past I had no problem using the editor. I had a certain way of doing things, but recent changes seem targeted not with the intention of making things easy for creators but rather forcing creators to conform to a specific vision and workflow. Not everything works for everyone, and when developers start needlessly tinkering with what's worked so well for many years, it's troubling. I've seen the same trend in MMO's I no longer play, and its always the same mentality: not convenience or comfort, but control and conformity. I have not seen any promising hints of things improving, and I'd rather changes be undone completely or at least an option to use the "old world" style. You literally couldn't pay me to use the stupid new floating editor that vanishes if you look at it the wrong way. We'll see. One of the reasons I've found it so easy to write is the ease of use of the old editor. If that last bit of convenience is stripped away for no other reason that someone says so, then that could potentially throw the future of Age of Defiance in jeopardy. World Anvil seems to have gotten the Cracker Barrel treatment....

2. Planned Articles

There's certain categories I tend to avoid. I'd rather do a few large well-written articles than spew out dozens of smaller nonsensical articles. Everything has to connect in AoD and there's subjects which might float around in the background that have huge repercussions in upcoming plots.
Character
I WANTED to do a Core Cast entry this year and Ryo and Cye are currently the frontrunners when it comes to amount of artwork, but thanks to the abhorrent changes to the image manager, I was unable to do a comprehensive audit of existing illustrations and I'll have to do that separately on my harddrive it seems. On top of illustrations featuring characters I'd want minimum a portrait, a full-body image of them in Armor, a image of them in sub-armor, and an image in civilian wear. Maybe even images of them in full AnimArmor and corresponding sub-armor.   My personal minimum is 10 images but I'm excluding any depictions of the guys in their respective Monster Forms. Past entries I've featured Vanguard characters such as Trakar, Roxi Hirochner, and Raurgoth. Each year I've made entries more fleshed out and detailed. This year I'm leaning towards Black Hawk since she has a hefty amount of both older concept drawings as well as newer full-color illustrations.
Species
I generally go out of my way to avoid species with a 60000ft barge pole both because there's relatively few major species featured in AoD, and I'm not inclined to make an entry for "humans" because that's just stupid....I prefer to use the Species category sparingly. Earlier this month I got into a bit of a spat with a rather unsavoury Anvilite who has a very skewed perspective of history and that actually inspired me, sending me down a rabbit hole of study into a particular local culture that once inhabited the area. I've mentioned often before how I HATE with a SEETHING PASSION the Avatar "franchise"....no no, not THAT Avatar. The one with the stupid blue cat people.   The very earliest versions of AoD had very little in way of worldbuilding surrounding the Natives of Thanged, or the Unicorn folk. They were just kind of there, and in the overall narrative there are only three named individuals that interact prominently with the main cast. Over the years I've added a bit more fleshing out their backstory, where they dwell, why they live in seclusion, and why the vast majority of them hate Thangiens. Characters such as T'plaureth are considered Minor Characters in AoD but is a Major Character in Far-Star-Traveller, the AoD prequel. AoD as written 20 years ago is vastly different from where it's ended up today, and it comes from taking kernels of writing and expanding on them while touching on real-world influences. Namely that "indigenous" cultures are often colossal A-holes.

Landmark
I wanted to do another one of the Four Corners since I've done the Traedeskaton, but I also wanted to do a 3d model, fully textured this time. I don't think I'm going to be able to do that as planned, but there is a specific spot I'd like to feature, though I don't think it'd be considered a landmark but a location: The Traghdoashin Nexxus Hole. A long time ago when I used to post on one of the older fan-archives, I got annoyed when the proprietor of the site kept going behind my back and changing things. Generation Nexxus is the title of the season featuring the post-Entide Ronin. The site owner kept changing it to Nexus....   THAT. IS. NOT. WHAT. I. F**KING. WROTE. Originally it started out as a just a word, then it expanded and evolved becoming both a person and a landmark. Nexxus is mentioned as being an exceptionally brilliant individual who led his entire race to ruin attempting to bend the Universe itself to his will. It's only ever been mentioned briefly in the narrative, but going into the Three Wars it'll become more and more relevant, tying into lore bits revolving around the Natives and the mysterious Peh'qu'tour who once rivaled the Totalitary.

Condition
I tend to alternate between the generic condition then the character-specific condition i.e. Emdourachil and Kento's Avatar Form. This year I'm more than likely going to do Ryo's Demon Form. I've already touched on it in an earlier entry but this would be more character-specific such as how Ryo uses his powers and how the others feel about it. It's not necessarily that being host to a demon automatically makes him evil, but that people that interact with him tend to assume he has some nefarious ulterior motive just BECAUSE it's a demon.
Plot
This category doesn't really see much use but I've used them in past events to kind of flesh out future chapters so I have my notes together. When putting together the summaries for Season 6 I learned that alot of my Old Blue Folder was extremely outdated and full of filler that had to be culled. This has resulted in sequences of events being completely rearranged. For example the final battle against the Dynasty was supposed to be the "third war" and the battle against the military the second. Season 6 will touch on both the guys basically relearning how to use their Armors as well as see them square off against the major antagonist of the War of Rage. Season 7 will see them deal with not just the Dynasty but other factions that use dangerous ideologies as an excuse to basically justify eco-terrorism. I'm old enough to remember the Saturday Morning Cartoons of yore where the bad guys were bad guys the good guys were good guys and the only way the two crossed over came from several episodes of detailed character development. The heroes had to fight against Zogbog Devourer of Worlds, not analyze his feelings and motivations.   I don't follow modern comics, and even in the past my primary exposure came from said cartoons, but I remember hearing about "X-Men Green" I think was the title, and the issue revolved around a mutant named "Nature Girl" who has a raging tantrum over a sea turtle then proceeds to murder an innocent convenience store worker. What. The. Actual. F**k!? The story treated the poor kid like he was somehow to blame for all the woes in the world without stopping to consider maybe he was some hapless goober eking out a living to scrape his way through college, or maybe living with his elderly mother or grandmother and helping pay for medicine. Instead of being punished for butchering a civilian, the mutant is basically given a slap on the wrist and a stern talking to. Also apparently her hair falls out because she's become super evil. I'm reminded of a Robot Chicken skit where a wife scolds her husband about cutting up the 6 pack rings to save the sea turtles and the husband brushes her off then it cuts to turtles having a bar fight and one using the rings to strangle the other. There was a very old idea involving a crossover with Gargoyles where the Ronin battle against the Pack, or "Ultra-Pack" featured in The Gargoyles Saga ficdom. This has been revised to center around an organization first mentioned in Neo Ronin but will feature more prominently in the future, starting with Roxi Hirochner's First Annual All-Wide BBQ Bonanza...

3. Writing Schedule

Writing's never been the issue for me: I literally write in my sleep. For example I'd noodled around Ch. 1 of Season 6 in my brain for months but when it came time to actually writing it out I knocked out 10k words in a few hours because not only did I have bits of lore from World Anvil ready in the pipe but I'd finally ironed out sequences of events. My primary focus is associated artwork, and even though I've done a great deal of drawing in the past during major events such as this past Summercamp, I always feel like I could do more. I've done a plethora of timelapse videos on my Rumble page, but if I want to hold myself to my personal standards, I'll have to be more aggressive in my commitments such as say an hour of drawing time each night. I DO have a solid chunk of pre-existing artwork I could easily utilize and partially-completed sketches I can refine. I can always step back from one job to commit more time to drawing and writing, but unless the other decides to hand out more hours, I'm still going to need money for gas and groceries...

4.People of Age of Defiance

One of my gripes is the scarcity of character-centric categories in recent years. Sometimes I get lucky and I can do three or even four characters both Major, Minor, and Supporting in a given year. There's a great deal of civilian characters the guys interact with on a daily basis, sometimes inadvertently as they are caught up in battles against the forces of evil. One of the core themes of the OAS has always been the Human spirit and its ability to persevere against all odds, and that's primarily why I DETEST the Avatar "franchise" and the rampant incessant smearing of the Human race or the attempt to essentially "redwash" history. Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern is one of the greatest scifi classics of literature full of legitimately diverse and eclectic characters and sadly there'll never be a big-screen adaptation that'll do it justice, and given what's befallen classic staples such as Lord of the Rings and the Witcher, I kind of hope there'll never be, because everyone and their mom will be a race-swapped monstrosity with a BINGO card's worth of mental illnesses, sexual fetishes, and physical deformities...

5. Pre-Writing Research

So my back and forth with said snotty Anvilite from earlier had me go down a rabbithole of research into a very naughty culture historically known to have beefed with everyone from other tribes to Texan settlers before finally getting their just comeuppance. No one likes a cannibal. But I had to do a great deal of digging to find actual facts because I noticed there's a plethora of newer videos glazing this tribe as somehow being "hardy freedom fighters taking a stand against colonialism" and that "descendants" are crawling out of the woodwork claiming to carry on their "rich proud traditions". What? You mean eating their enemies to deny them the afterlife? Good luck with that. I began disregarding anything dated less than 5 years because it was all redwashed Youtube slop. I found a couple of indepth videos taking a deep dive into history that had the facts in all their unflattering glory.   When writing Ch. 1 of Season 6 there's a scene where Navajo Elder Shaman William Walking Cloud comes face to face with Greytorata, the extremely ancient and extremely powerful Goddess of Time first formally encountered by the guys in Season 5 Spacequake. Walking Cloud refers to her by the name of a Navajo goddess, but I had to look up gods to see if there was such a thing as a Navajo Goddess of Time. And surprisingly enough there actually was, and I took that bit of real-world mythos and plugged it in, because Greytorata has no power to actually dictate the flow of time: she is merely a casual observer recording events as they are fated to unfold. I think it's dumb that people try to look for malice where there is none but at the same time turn a blind eye to actual malice. There were plenty of stories I read about Indian lore in my youth like how a little girl burned her prize doll and created the Bluebonnet flower that is so iconic to Texas, or how a boy painted the perfect sunset with the aid of magical plants and thus the Indian Paintbrush was born. Those stories are there, they've BEEN there, but there are goobers that insist somehow they are the "first ever" and they "finally have representation". There's BEEN representation, they're simply too high on their own supply to recognize it.

Incoming December Retail Rush...

I'm no stranger to working down to the wire, and last year I definitely had to rush some pieces and shelve plans for entries. I tend to aim low then surprise myself when I surpass my planned goal. At least this time around I don't have a litter of foster kittens trying to EAT MY WACOM CABLE!!! I'd invite more people to join my art streams on Rumble but I've heard its sort of the red-headed stepchild of platforms for nonsensical reasons. People cite the lack of diversity of content, but if no one makes said content, then how can it grow? I'll make that content then, because even though I get more bot views than actual views, I'd still rather use it over Youtube because Youtube seems hell-bent on selling out the very creators that put it where it is now and flooding the internet with AI slop. Because I primarily work in the mornings, if I do any art streams it would have to be in the evening. Whether or not I'll establish specific times remains to be seen, but I find it's better not to plan a rigid schedule in the event something unexpected crops up. Like kittens eating your wacom table. Or snow in Texas.

All artwork used is self-made and belongs to me unless otherwise stated, such as kitbashes and commissions. Age of Defiance does not and will not use or feature RW/YST original artwork out of consideration for the OAS creators
