The coalition of independent nations
We have now a strong bond between our nations, united in our adversary against the hordes. A coalition, if you will.~Aldris Alvor in Nataly
Culture
The coalition believes strongly in upholding the status quo to maintain the original balance of power on the continent, Where Helioth and Mittrellion are the two most powerful states and the other countries on the continent are satellites to either of these. The coalition contains many diverse countries, who among each other differ in their ancestry, each having their roots in a different Tordian tribe.
Public Agenda
The goal of the coalition was to form a military alliance and increase international concurrence on military matters. This was done in a response to the increasing military prowess of Derendor, and their subsequent invasion of Mittrellion. The alliance aims to expel all foreign armies from its soil, and alliance members aid each other in achieving this goal.
History
Mittrellion and Helioth had an age-old military alliance since before the birth of the coalition. While the Derendoran hosts flooded into Maerasch, messengers were sent to Helioth, calling upon the king to honor the alliance and send their arms. Helioth honored the call to arms, but like Mittrellion, it was caught unprepared, and the situation for the Helots was perilous indeed, for the Herakans increased their raids along the border and Grayhan too was stirring, itching to reconquer long lost lands. While Helioth mobilized for war, Nataly and Thornbridge castle fell, and the Derendoran host rushed to Shaldorn palace in an effort to cut off the Mittrellian head. This was a mistake, however; the dwarf Grendhar Broadblade urged king Goldior Hammerstroke of Goldarihr to send a dwarven host to come to the Mittrellian aid. The king, though hesitant, moved a host out of the Hinilli mountains and faced the Derendoran Nomguls on the Elkhorn plain. At the same time the Mittrellian forces sallied out of Shaldorn Palace and the two hosts crushed the Derendoran forces, who were ill-prepared for an additional force coming to the Mittrellian aid.
After this battle, the Dwarven warriors found common ground with the Mittrellians. The Dwarven commander Graeldohr Rockskin feasted, drank and fraternized with King Aldris until dawn, and because of this positive experience between the two races Goldarihr became a military ally to Mittrellion, and thus to Helioth as well. The coalition of independent nations was thus born.
After the battle of the Elkhorn plain, All nation of Aimane were called upon to join the coalition, arguing self-determination and freedom as opposed to Derendoran subjugation. More forces were amassing in the south, after all. The response was mixed; Nomeria and Etaliron enthusiastically accepted to join the alliance, but Herak and Ascilian chose to remain neutral, and Grayhan unsurprisingly endorsed Derendor. The Tilian city-states were not interested in continental wars, and Serenis was not invited.
The alliance amassed a sizeable force in Nataly, where it was decided to attempt to cut off the head of the Derendoran command, as Derendor itself had tried as well. While the south-land was still regrouping, a host of dwarves, Helots and Mittrellians marched southwest, through the desert, aiming for Askar. In an attempt to make haste, they were fairly disorganized, and the host was not as large as it could have been; Etaliran forces were still amassing across the bay of Bul, seeking to land a host on the east coast. Nomerian Dragonriders had been gliding down the Nomerian mountains, though they, too, would only arrive when the hour was late. The coalition forces could not reach Askar before Derendor halted their advance; at the battle of Kamon-Raa, the coalition suffered a maiming defeat to the Derendorans.
After the battle, Mittrellion, Etaliron and most of Helioth fell to the Nomgul hordes within a matter of months. Derendor quickly made attempts to wipe out any former administration and replace it fully with Derendoran power structures, based around Nomgul governance. The remnants of the coalition armies retreated to the Hinilli and Kur-Horia. Nomeria was forced into defensive warfare against Grayhan. Unexpectedly, The sons of the Silverbird and the White Wolves, two insurgant militant rebel groups, sought to topple the Derendoran regime, and both groups simultaneously assaulted the Ring of Askar in a surprise attack. King Aldis was killed, and in Askar an Aerin plot was exposed, revealing the king as a puppet to Aznuial the Aerin, who's goal was for the Aerin to regain rights as equals among men and political power in a new united Aimane. Aznuial was killed and Askar was destroyed by the Hablator he called upon. The Nomguls, dependent on Aznuial and revering him as a god-king, were crushed by his death and they retreated to their homelands in the Gundushad mountains, where they mourned and eventually fell back into a stateless tribal society. For a few months this left a power vaccuum in the conquered territories resulting in serious unrest, but the original rulers of Mittrellion and Etaliron were quickly reinstated, and Derendor, guideless with neither king nor military, was jointly occupied by the coalition.
Disbandment
A new king, independent from the Rindorinam dynasty and friendly to the coalition, was instated and the Derendoran military and navy were reduced to a fraction of what they were. After these tasks were done, the coalition was finally deconstructed into a simplified form of support to Nomeria, still struggling against Grayhan. 29 years later, Nomeria finally came to a peace agreement with Grayhan, and the last remnant of the coalition of independent nations came to an end.
Territories
the coalition makes up the territory of countries of Mittrellion, Goldarihr, Etaliron, Nomeria and Helioth. during the war, the territories in the coalition were reduced to only portions of Goldarihr and the capital of Helioth, Kur-Horia. after the war, the coalition regained its original territories, and also temporarily gained the occupation zone of Derendor.
