Aframir

We on Aframir are not exclusive; the Planet stands, or rather it levitates or floats, in the Orph, the Orphosphere. We are in a strange dance with Adrah's Folly and pearl, Nethyras and Orune. But the stars are not playing along.
~Eviar

Geography

Aframir is the home planet of the all-folk, the centre-point of Adrah, Nethyras and Orune and the primary focus of the craftes. It has three main landmasses; the continent of Aimane on one side, and the continent of Tordisti on the other. To the north lies the smaller Aidun and to the south Kangolar.

Tordisti

The continent of Tordisti is, in all accounts, the oldest. History goes back four thousand years to the birth of mankind, with before that even many more years when the crafters roamed the lands to perfect it. It was ever a diverse place, but not desolation was there. Only the mountains rose above the landscape in great, jagged wastes often untrodden, and they fenced the inner lands off. The north of the continent was dominated by the great Eldurin, the tallest mountain range that ever graced human eyes. They were greater in stature than the Hinilli or the Gundushads. The west of the continent was fenced off by the Ernon, a more gentle range of lesser height, but still a considerable obstacle for any that sought to pass inland from the sea. For behind it was, south of the equator, also the Woryon Cleft, a great rift that carved the land in two. On the east were the heights of Eralda, which were smooth and sloped down into the ocean. Within these ranges (and beyond them on the coasts) were diverse and beautiful landscapes that were dear to Aziel; green fields, flowery meadows, mystical and enduring forests and crystal-like river. The most formidable examples of Tordisti's natural splendour were the Aerilian trees and the Analior Glades, which are further described in the Tordisti entry of this memorandinium.

Aimane

The land of fortunes, in the Tordian tongue, Aimane was discovered after Niérna, the comprehension. The name Aimane has historically been used for the entire landmass, but as the territory of mankind became smaller over time, Aimane generally referred to the nine crowns ruling over the west.
The larger landmass outside of the modern use of the word consists of Old Mirvania which covers central and eastern mirvania. The southern portion of the continent remained largely unexplored and untouched. Dwarven/Karagar folktales describe how Dwarves/Karaga trekked from their homelands north; this leads a portion of scholars to believe that Kangolar, the Dwarven/Karagar homeland, is connected to Aimane in the south. Whether this be true or not, a great sea separates Kangolar and Derendor. Rocks, tall waves and vicious winds and tides make rounding the southern cape a great challenge for the most experienced seafarer. Further south, the sea is uncharted. The ultimate southern coast of Aimane, should it exist, has never been found.
The modern Aimane has a charted coastline and is therefore known in greater detail. The southern peninsula of Derendor is a great desert, which is fenced of by the Gundushad mountains in the north that seperate the south-land from the central stage of Aimane, which consists of Helioth in the northern half, and Mittrellion in the south. Northwest of Helioth there lies Epron, the great peninsula that is divided between the highland matriarchy of Nomeria in the north, and the Rahddiate of Grayhan in the south; the latter is connected to Helioth with a small land bridge called Ligval. Northeast of Helioth are colder regions, that were long part of the great wastes of Mirvania, but are now colonized by the Herakans. South of Herak is the Hinilli mountain range, which is the most sprawling and loftiest range currently known in greater Aimane. Its western slopes are steep and abruptly rise quickly from the planes of Ordán. Its eastern slopes are gentler, yet still jagged, leaving thousands of square miles of unknown glades and valleys. The hinilli are of Goldharihr, the Dwarven state, who colonize the eastern reaches of the Hinilli, reaching into the wastes. South of Goldharihr lies Etaliron, also east of the Hinilli. They call the unpredictable Eris river their eastern march, and the Hinilli their western. The east banks of the Eris river is more impoverished in fertility than the western, and many call that river the westernmost boundary of the great wastes of Old-Mirvania. One must travel many more strides east, however, before the land turns wholly dead. The great wastes of Old-Mirvania stretch from the far northern reaches of the continent, down south to Shimit (the easternmost populated city in Aimane), east of the Hinilli, and down south past the Eris river to some unknown termination in the dark corners of the world.
Southwest of Etalirion, northeast of the Etyr highlands of Derendor and precisely halfway between the two nations in the middle of the bay of Estidan, lies Traitors Island, or Serenis in their own nomenclature.
Other notable features of modern Aimane are Clarak lake, which the Elkhorn plain borders on, and it serves as an undefined border between Helioth and Mittrellion. Many nautical stretches west of the mainland lies the Tilos archipelago, which is similar in landscape to Mittrellion's Kodar and is contested between many warring factions.

Ecosystem Cycles

Aframir has slight temperature differences that are possibly caused by it's angular position in relation to Adrah's creations. Every year balances between a slight cold and a slight warm period. Neither of these are intense, and they do not have a great effect on the lifestyles on its animals or citizens. The greatest cyclic effects Aframir experiences are caused by the celestial phenomenon called Adrah's Darkness. Adrah, having designed his beautiful masterpiece of Adrah's pearl, the white jewel of the sky, was upset that Gilmithiën, Eron and Aziel experimented freely with new creations, even after Ranién's creation was completed. He decided, against the judgment of Aminduis, to hone his skills are reproduce a greater, more magnificent version of Adrah's pearl. He made a thousand times a thousand attemps, none as beautiful as he desired; so he cast these away, far to the outer reaches of the Orphosphere; at night, when the light of Adrah's creations does not drown them out, they are still visible from Aframir, in the distant Orph. But after a million stars were set in the night sky, Adrah created his most magnificent work; a red sphere, fiery, greater than his pearl. With great pride he displayed his new creation in the night sky for all of Aframir to see; but Aminduis was perturbed by Adrah's selfish deed and he mockingly told the humans that this new light was Adrah's Folly, a gem of greater warmth and size, but an object of no bliss and lower excellence; for Adrah wished only to represent his own terrible semblance, and did hope to achieve fairness solely in honour of Alior. But Alior saw the new star and he smiled, for unbeknownst to both Adrah and Aminduis, the second sun of the Orph proved to be a fateful object that the king of heavens had long decided would come. Alior spoke to Adrah:
"weep not, child most ambitious of mine, for the Orph is more beautiful; under thy pearl Aziel's designs would be dark and dreadful for ever. And the king of heavens has laid many eyes on what is, and what should be; Ranien's people must bask in the glory of thy pearl, as Alior has always hoped it would come to pass. Under the pearl, Aziel's plants grow in a wondrous palette of colours, but they will turn red, purple and black, a cycle granted by the new red mass of what Aminduis has named thy folly; For what may seethe and burn in the mind of thy master, gives purpose to all life in the will of thy king. Yet do not so eagerly discard thine attempts to birth this magnificence; the stars thou hast set in the corners of my gift will have their place, as Alior will give all a place. Aframir will circulate your Pearl five times. Then, when it grows tired of the cold, silver shapes of Aziel's creation, it abandons the Pearl. A time of cold comes in this darkness of thee, and matters most vile will sprout and thrive. Then Aframir will meet thy folly; And it is beautiful, for the hearts of Ranién's children have grown fond from longing for light. And under a red sky they will rejoice the warmth as evil recedes and Aziel's gifts will resprout in colors new and fresh. But after yet five more circulations, Aframir must return to her home near thy Pearl, and once more she must endure the long dark that she is cursed to confront. Be not upset, for the darkness allows thy discarded children to shine in their own display, for the master crafters do not so carelessly forsake their works.
~Alior speaks to Adrah, in assorted markings on Alior, the crafters and their works   And as Alior spoke the two jewels of Adrah approached one another. In a dance still poorly understood, the two move sometimes near, sometimes far. But we know that once every five circulations of Aframir around either jewel, the other gets so near that Aframir is stolen and carried through Adrah's Darkness to the other jewel.   When Aframir basks in the light of Adrah's Pearl, the plants display a wide variety of color; They are pink, green, yellow, red, purple, silver, and any color imagineable in between. All colours are light and bright, and they capture the light of Adrah's pearl during the day, so that the forest and fields glow during the night. But when Marama's Vestige dawns, and Aframir is pulled away from Adrah's Pearl, many plants shed their leaves, save for those who are comfortable in darkness. As the forests seem to wither, the unsavoury things that none wish to lay their eyes on come to pass. This is the time that Nixies mate and gestate, Kobolds organize, Mantaslaus leave their mothers to establish a territory, Blaikan come out of hibernation to hunt, Eron's creatures come crawling out of their caves and the mythical Aermins create immense storms with their strange mating ritual. It is eight moontides of cowering for humans and dwarves alike. In Tordian legend, those of mankind who would afford to make the journey usually hid among the Aerilian trees, which were free of earthly vermin.
When Aframir approaches near Adrah's Folly, the plantlife rebirths anew, but they sprout in much darker colours than under the Pearl. The new light is welcomed en celebrated, and the evil things retreat back to the dark corners of the world. After five circulations among Adrah's Folly, Adrah's Darkness sets in again, Aframir returns to Adrah's Pearl and the cycle starts anew.
