Svalshøm

Svalshøm is a collection of tents filled with mercenary explorers heading into Blakkgaarde looking to get rich. Maerg Belwri, the appointed town leader, runs this outpost with few rules: just an unspoken agreement that all explorers have each other's backs against the harsh environment, just as they would back in their mountain home. Svalshøm has few laws, but its explorers look out for each other. This is a courtesy they were forced to learn because of the harsh environment of The Nevermelt. The frigid conditions of the land have forced the people here to be interdependent. Most folks in Svalshøm share food when their hunts are good so that others return the favor when their luck runs out.   Svalshøm doesn't suffer bullies. The honor system is enforced by the toughest explorers, who don't hesitate to take justice into their own hands. One such individual is the sheriff, Jorg Delvrus (neutral good, male human), a staunch friend and a staunch holder of grudges. Delvrus is content to allow the explorers to keep order, as it allows him to go off on expeditions of his own.

Infrastructure

Svalshøm is mostly made up of the various ramshackle shacks and tents of miners, mercenaries, and explorers. There are very, very few permanent buildings in town, and these tend to be communal buildings shared and used by all.

Assets

Most assets in Svalshøm are viewed as jointly owned. If you put in your fair share of work, you will get a fair share of food, shelter, and the other necessities to live. Explorers needing supplies to go on their expeditions look to the Emptor to purchase dry goods, mining equipment, potions, and a few other minor magical trinkets. He operates his "store" much like a pawn shop, buying various goods off of those who return from the field, and reselling them to those who might need them as they head out into the wilds.

Guilds and Factions

Religion in Svalshøm is a personal matter and there are no permanent churches. There are however a small number of chaplains who open their tents up to the worship of their deity on holy days if anyone wishes to come.   There are a few mercenary bands and adventuring companies present in Svalshøm who represent the interests of larger companies and other interests. These organizations generally do not broadcast their presence and try to keep a low profile.

History

Svalshøm is a very new outpost, created just after mithral was discovered in the Blakkgaarde region. It is a boom town created by the need for an outpost from which miners and explorers can launch their expeditions.

Architecture

Buildings in Svalshøm are rare. Most people live in tents. Any permanent structures in town are very simple wooden buildings that have been thrown up hastily with little regard for aesthetics.

Geography

Svalshøm is located on the western coast of the southern peninsula of the island of Blakkgaarde. It lies to the east of the vast expanse of tundra and frozen ice known as the Thinveil.

Natural Resources

Mithral is the main export of Svalshøm. There are a few other precious metals such as gold and silver that can be found as well. Lost civilizations have also left various treasures behind, buried deep beneath the surface.
