War Correspondence

Letter 1

To Lord Arnould Varal of House Varal,
Your proposition arrives with clarity and ambition. The Citadel’s oversight has long stifled Marisaran prosperity. If your family can ensure silence within Castle Rockwall and disrupt Citadel communications, then we shall see this alliance forged in more than ink.
Our eastern fleet has already begun its silent withdrawal from Verisaran harbors under the pretense of seasonal repairs. The Hunters still stationed in Port Thalune will be delayed inland. They will not return to Verisara in time.
When the first sails are spotted on the eastern tide, Thaldrisar must already be through the northwestern pass. Only with synchronized thunder can the walls of Verisara fall.
Let this be the final century of Verisaran dominance.
  — C. Tresk
Commodore, Marisaran Eastern Fleet

Letter 2

To Lord Varal,
The blockade drills have been publicly declared as joint exercises with Thaldrisar's merchant fleet. The irony is not lost on me.
You were right—Verisara's diplomats see only what they expect. Their blindness is our strength.
Our orders are clear: when the signal is received, we will close the eastern trade routes and isolate the coastal cities. Verisara's ports will choke before her soldiers march.
I trust your word when you say Castle Rockwall will hesitate to act. See that it does.
  — C. Tresk
Commodore, Marisaran Eastern Fleet

Letter 3

To the Honorable Lord Varal,
We have reviewed your latest report. Thaldrisar’s plan to breach the Timberwatch Pass aligns well with our naval assault. We will strike when the citadel’s gaze is fixed on the mountains.
Four of our warships have already been repositioned under civilian banners. They await orders from Solvaris and Vaelmar Bay.
The Hunters still patrolling our southern waters will be reassigned under fabricated warrants. As you advised, they are too few to raise alarm and too far to intervene.
The balance of power in Aethria is about to shift, my lord. History will remember the quiet hands who tilted the scale.
  — C. Tresk
Commodore, Marisaran Eastern Fleet

Letter 4

Lord Arnould,
We are positioned to strike within twelve days of your signal. The tides favor us, and the moon wanes—just as we planned.
Our embassy has received no suspicion. The Hunters within our borders, while ever-watchful, remain woefully unaware. By the time they understand, it will be far too late.
You asked whether Thaldrisar would hold their end. I have met with their agent. The siege of Timberwatch must begin within a fortnight of our eastern push. You must see to it that no reinforcements move out from Castle Rockwall.
We trust you, Arnould. Let no misstep break what we have built.
  — C. Tresk
Commodore, Marisaran Eastern Fleet
