SPECIAL ABILITIES
Grab (Ex) If the type 4 hits with its bite attack, it deals the normal damage. If the type 4’s attack roll successfully hits the target's KAC + 4, the creature also automatically grapples the foe as a free action. (If it hits the target's KAC + 13, it instead pins the target.) The creature can maintain the grab either with another successful grab attack or by performing the grapple combat maneuver normally.
Necromorph Options Although there are common types of hive horrors each is unique. You can select one of the following abilities or spend 2 Gene Pool points from the mutations presented in the Gravity Age: Mutant Menagerie. Note these options have not been included in the creature’s stat block.
- Energy Diffusion: Resistance 5/fire, 2/electric, and 2/sonic
- Haste: Benefits of haste spell for 4 rounds
- Phase: Temporarily shift out of phase with the universe. For 1 round the hive horror can pass through walls and non-living material objects. In addition, the hive horror benefits from a 20% miss chance against attacks and effects targeting it directly and takes only half damage from area effects. Force effects, however, function normally against it.
ECOLOGY
Environment any
Organization hive
Easily recognized by their elongated arm scythes, the type 4 hive horror might not be the most powerful of its kind but it is one of the most feared. The type 4 hive horror is one of the only known hive horrors that can spread its necromorph pathogens through its bite. Anyone unfortunate enough to get bitten transforms into a quasi-dead hive horror if not give proper medical attention. Type 4 hive horrors are usually released on a community after volunteers for the Promise have been collected.
