A star fell on the eastern side of the mountains near Cloudfall. The Dragonborn went to investigate and found a completely reshapen landscape. A second expedition found amongst the thick dark mists the remnants of the star. This massive crater of black rock was to be the center piece of a new city they'd call Darkstar.
One day a star fell close to Cloudfall but on the eastern side of the mountainrange. The eastern side was known for its steep cliffs that went all the way down into the sea. It was considered madness to chase the fallen star for the journey would be dangerous and the destination in the middle of the unforgiving wild sea. Yet some adventurous Dragonborn decided to find out what happened to the star. After weeks of looking for a way through the mountains the adventurers arrived at a completely devastated landscape. Those who had been to this side of the mountains knew that there were once more mountains. A decent portion must have been flattened by the impact of the star. Where once was sea there was now land as far as the eye could see, which wasn't far cause a thick layer of ash and steam covered the cracked and smouldering landscape. It felt violent and hostile.
The explorers set up camp to observe the changing of the land. In some places the earth was splitting open, forming great canyons and breaking down mountains. In other places the earth was contracting forming hills and new mountains. Great rainclouds covered the land turning valleys into rivers. One explorer wrote "It is as if we are seeing the hands of Rathoc tending to the land.".
Despite the perceived divine action unfolding before their eyes, the explorers knew they were supposed to witness and nothing more. "Each time we stepped forward, out of our camp, Rathoc shook the ground and created an eruption of lava as if telling us he was not yet finished." Several weeks passed and a part of the group headed back for more supplies and to deliver the amazing news.
Upon hearing the discovery a second expedition was immediately formed. A strong wind blew from the west, carrying the scent of ash and seawater making it much easier to navigate the mountains. When they arrived they found the land had calmed down. The remaining Dragonborn from the first expedition had been staying in camp waiting patiently for the new expedition. When they left camp to see if Rathoc was finished they were no longer met by earthquakes and eruptions of lava. They wandered the newly formed land and though it was barren, it was clear the winds carried seeds of life. The warm soil and plentiful rainfall allowed plants to grow in the seasons that otherwise were without life.
Some travel later they came to a vast black mist. Something from within the mist called to them, wanting to be found. They ventured into the mist and found a gigantic crater of obsidian and other molten and again solidified rock. At the core of the crater was a small lake, still steaming from the heat of the meteorite it held. Once they saw the tip of the meteorite stick out from the boiling lake they knew they had found something most incredible. They felt it was a place they now belonged to, and that belonged to them. Many stayed to make camp at the edge of the crater. Others soon decided to head back and tell everyone about this wonderful lush land they had found and the star that calls to them.
The expeditions that followed settled in or near the crater and on the 1st of Growth 1387 it became known as the town of Darkstar. By that time the lake had evaporated and the lands around it were teeming with life. The town eventually grew to contain the entire crater and became the second largest city in the Adordronic Democracy.
