Aerit

Aerit is the planet and world on which the World of Aerit is set. It is an Earth-like planet with similar cosmological attributes and characteristics. It is unique in that its core is a mixture of Iron and Lucidus, giving it a strong magnetic and Nether energy field.   Aerit's age and recent extinction event render the vast majority of its land as unexplored wilderness. Humans, Jinn, Svartali, and the other sentients have not spread far beyond the clusters of population on the continents. The wilderness is pushed back slowly, for it is rampant with animal life as well as spiritual occurrences and beasts that make it exceptionally risky to explore.

Geography

Aerit's geography is originally defined by tectonic plate systems that move with internal harmony but contest with each other similarly to Earth's plates. In the wake of the divine wars long ago, one of the plate systems became fractured and shattered such that it became submerged beneath the sea.   Modern Aerit is defined by three major continents and several other land formations, including a chain of large barrier islands at the extreme east of the continents. Each continent has sets of mountain ranges formed from mostly colliding plates, with sparse volcanic activity and an abundance of deep gemstone activity, including feystones.

Ecosystem

Aerit's primary ocean is only slightly larger than Earth's Pacific Ocean. However, its continents have a greater north-south spread, and its tropical and equatorial regions have different climates thanks to ocean currents and atmospheric influences. Furthermore, the axis is tilted less than Earth's, making seasonal changes less noticeable and local climates more stable.

Localized Phenomena

Aerit has a portal to the Netherwhere located at each pole. The southern one is hardly accessible due to a lack of landmass and civilization, but the northern one has heavy influence on modern events. Because of the Nether energy issuing from the portal, humans in the northern reaches of Aerit have slowly evolved unstable solic cores similar to those of the jinn.

Fauna & Flora

The biomes and regional climates, organisms, and geology of Aerit are as diverse as any on Earth. Aerit is mostly wild and unsettled, and populations tend to be dense but spread out. This is a result of the Netherwhere beasts and magical phenomena that infested the world prior to the great Cataclysm and spirit war; since the war ended, the victorious mortal races nevertheless could not eradicate all of the wild things, and though none came anew to the corporal world, many of those that remained never aged nor met any martial demise.   Of these monsters a wide variety exist across the world. Even those of sea and sky dwell farther from populated places. Dense forests and untamed wilderness define the leagues between cities, and even more so between nations.

Natural Resources

Besides conventional wood, stone, mineral, and foodstuffs, Aerit boasts a unique resource in its feystones. These are created by deep tectonic and Nether activity, and then moved towards the surface of Aerit by tectonic activity. These gem-like stones are the source and conduit of Nether energy in all svartali feysmithing and enchantment.
