Vescaline

Description

Vescaline is a metal that was once found in Gothir. It is almost mythical in status, and is the most highly sought material in Aellorah. Those who know of what it can be used for would be willing to kill for it. If you somehow come into the possession of Vescaline in the modern age, you would do well to stay far away from civilization unless you have the power to protect it. It appears almost silver, but has a prismatic effect when light is shone on it.

Vescaline, put quite simply, negates the effects of a Wellspring eruption, as well as any anomalies it has created. If you were to make a sword of Vescaline and cut a Bakari with it, their form would begin to revert to that of an Ettinor from before The Spellscar eruption. If you were to make a staff with Vescaline embedded in it and enchant it with the 'Dispel Magic' spell, you would essentially have a way to dispel, at least temporarily, a Wellspring anomaly. And if you were to stab a Half-Elf with a Vescaline dagger, they would cease to exist, at least for a minute or two -- almost like the 'Banishment' spell.

However, all traces of Vescaline have vanished from Aellorah as far as civilization knows. The last known artifact made of Vescaline was lost sometime in the middle of The Reckoning. Adventurers far and wide have gone in search of these relics, but even the oldest Elves alive only remember hearing stories about the metal. Even a baseless rumor about a location of Vescaline can send adventurers into a mad dash to find it, leading to groups clashing. There have even been a handful of incidents of people spreading rumors of Vescaline to incite rival groups to pursue it with the hopes that they would kill each other along the way.

Vescaline doesn't just negate existing anomalies. It is said that artifacts made of this metal were capable of protecting the bearer from active eruptions.

The metal was created by a Wellspring eruption sometime during The Upheaval; so on a grand scale, it was not around for very long in Aellorah's history. It was created by Estrea's Wellspring and was said to be found in deep caverns below mountains in what is now the Spellscar region. However, given that the Spellscar is only about 100 years old, adventurers had plenty of time to search for it before the Bakari appeared. Scholars who have studied the metal believe that it was able to negate the effects of the Wellspring because it had a connection to Estrea herself -- and because Estrea's domain includes entropy, it is believed that the metal would bring order to the chaos of the magics originating from the Wellsprings.
