The Upheaval

Following the arrival of the Sentinels and the eradication of the Voidspawn roaming the world, the Sentinels began to help rebuild civilization, bringing law to areas that had fallen to anarchy. The Luminari would go on to form the organization known as the Truthseekers to act as mediators in legal cases where no evidence was possible, and they worked with members of the remnants of the world's regimes to establish formalized laws, demanding that certain laws be universally adopted across the world. There were those who resisted, even to the point of violence, but their rebellions were quickly quelled by the Sentinels by force. Scholars have criticized the early Sentinels' actions for forcing the world to universally adopt a set of laws, but the code of laws, which would come to be known as the "Ausnir Kotix", are widely considered to be just.

With the Sentinels to act as the last line of defense against the Voidspawn, the Seven Sisters made the decision to form a pact of non-interference, believing their hand-holding and influence to be destructive to the development of the races of Aellorah. Now that each of them had created one race, they saw fit to withdraw from direct interactions with mortals, instead limiting their interactions to divine prophecy, and commandments given to their devoted. The three goddesses of the moon, Quen, Umos, and Lekaris, did not take this well. Being the most closely involved with mortals due to their symbolic cultural significance, they believed that withdrawing from mortal interaction would be not only destructive to mortals, who were still young and naive, but to the Seven Sisters themselves, who had grown so fond of their creations. While Quen and Lekaris begrudgingly obeyed this pact, Umos has ever been a thorn in her sisters' sides, blatantly ignoring the pact and meddling in mortal affairs.

Feeling abandoned, mortals had to find a way to adapt to life without the guidance of the Seven Sisters. Many spent their days praying for guidance, which went unanswered. When it became clear that they were on their own, religions began to form for each of the Seven Sisters, defining tenets in line with their teachings, so that people could learn how to live their lives on their own. Unfortunately, this gave way to a number of bad actors who created corrupt versions of these religions in remote areas where people didn't know any better, which left scars that remain to this day. Cults began to form, exploiting those who felt directionless for their own gain. Perhaps the most serious offender in this regard were the "Wunyr Tonil", who taught that the Letheni were forsaken by Lys for a presumed lack of piety and "degeneracy", and formed small communes with extremely regressive values that modern Antiquarians find extremely distasteful. They were known for ostracizing misbehaving children and ritually sacrificing those in the communes that were seen as the "weakest link" in terms of their behavior. Fortunately, this group didn't last for more than a few hundred years before the Kingdom of Derunadel's rapid expansion allowed these exploited communes access to larger communities, which allowed them to quickly realize the error of their ways, causing them to turn against the group's leaders.

Following the destruction of the Drakantal Empire, the Kingdom of Derunadel was also severely weakened, having bordered the Empire and having been frequent users of magic. In southern Arak, Human, Vesperkin, and Lynoxi settlers from Myr, having formed a new faction called the Rojek Dynasty, took advantage of the Kingdom of Derunadel's weakened state and established themselves in southern Arak, driving the Letheni north. It is unknown what happened to sour relations between the Letheni and the Myrians, but given the Kingdom's reputation, scholars are not surprised. However, with the Drakantal Empire gone, this left northern Arak wide open, which the Kingdom of Derunadel took advantage of, moving in on the Empire's destroyed cities and rebuilding them, occupying their former mines and taking possession of the many valuable materials found there. This did not go unnoticed, as the Myrians had scouts and spies watching the Letheni. Given their tentative control over southern Arak, being a new faction, they sent emissaries to Reshyk and informed the Dwarves of what the Letheni were up to, which enraged them. The Dwarves refused to get involved in the conflict, but agreed to provide their superior magical weaponry to the Rojek Dynasty, and in exchange they would be given the northeastern territories of Arak once the Letheni were dealt with. This led to a long and bloody war between the two factions which was interrupted by the Reckoning period, but ultimately raged on right up until the late Restoration period, when the two factions made peace and formed the Synodical Republic.

This period of Aellorah's history was marked by a record number of war atrocities that have had ripple effects on interspecies relations to the modern day. The most notable event was The Branding, during which the Kingdom of Derunadel, attempting to expand to Gothir to secure more territory, captured and enslaved a large number of Ettinor and worked them to death in mines, afterwards throwing their bodies back over their city walls towards their Ettinor families with crude mocking messages carved into their bodies, most notably "EAT UP!", mocking the Ettinor's cannibalistic practices. This led to the Ettinor sacking the Letheni town of Guruma and slaughtering everyone there except for 1,000 people, who were subject to the Ettinor capital punishment of Sari'negol, in which they were killed and then had their souls bound to their bodies, after which they were buried in deep holes in locations lost to history, left to rot alone for eternity.

There were two other major events that shook up the landscape of the world in this era; the formation of the Rathmore Empire, and the destruction of Thalassarion. The Rathmore Empire was formed initially as an alliance between several city states of northern Myr, and controversially made the decision to outlaw the practice of magic in all forms after it was discovered that the Voidspawn which had destroyed the Dwarves in Arak had been attracted to them due to their heavy usage of magic. The Rathmore Empire had very conservative views and had very militaristic inclinations. The other city states of Myr also saw fit to reduce magic usage, but not ban it outright. They chose to pursue mechanical technology, which would really take off after Artus ascended to the sky in the Reckoning period; however, until then, they were at a serious disadvantage facing the Rathmore Empire, which was not aided by the constant bickering between city states. This would lead to the formation of The Commonwealth towards the end of the era. Meanwhile, in the Dreaming Wastes of Arak, an unknown cataclysmic event led to the destruction of the city of Thalassarion and devastating the entire landmass, making it uninhabitable and driving away residents of other settlements in the region. The region was eventually classified as highly dangerous and quarantined by the Antiquarians' Guild due to the unknown nature of the city's destruction. All that is known is that immediately following the city's destruction, Quen's Wellspring erupted, resulting in the anomaly known as Tibranumior, in which a massive fissure opened up between Dedenatorr and Vardanorr, leading several miles down into the Deephollow. The destruction of Thalassarion was a major blow to trade, not to mention the loss of resources from the Dreaming Wastes.

This period of Aellorah's history lasted for 2,130 years and is abbreviated as "UP".
