The Siege of Rytaia

Military action

1009BA

After a series of defeats, Nasirian forces were pushed back to their capital, Rytaia. Eumenides was assassinated in his sleep merely nights before the unified Arcanaan army began their siege of the city. When all hope for the Nasirians seemed lost, reinforcements from the northeast swept through the Arcanaanite flanks, decimating and disorganizing their units.

Arcanaanite generals were taken by surprise when they learned that their enemy had chimeras conscripted into their ranks as formidable fighters. The race's cat-like reflexes outmatched any armor-clad human in close-quarters battle. With the battle for Rytaia having the highest concentration of chimeras in the war, the unaccustomed Arcanaanites found themselves at a surprising disadvantage. The siege attempt failed the same day it had begun.   Seizing their opportunity to turn the tables, the Nasirian armies rallied and fought vigorously to remove the invaders from their land. Fortunately, the Arcanaanites were forced to withdraw anyway, due to their supply lines having been stretched too thin to continue the campaign. Their generals' inexperience with true warfare (beyond the skirmishes between the old kingdoms) crippled their own capability to sustain such a large invasion force. Zoroastria’s arid climate also contributed to fatigue and fast dehydration. The Abian mainlanders simply were not prepared for a foreign conflict.
