Elytrian

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Elytrians, known as Elyriheni in their native tounge, are visually similar to the Modra as they both have large sets of wings. But other than that they are quite different.
(talk about Elytrian wings visually) Elytrian wings have a radius of 12"75 feet, and are so long the ends drag on the ground. The wings themselves are known for their beauty and glistening shine to them, an almost holographic or glistening shimmer. These wings are specialized for long flight times with unreliable air currents. The chitin flaps are very useful here, they basically function like flaps on an airplane, increasing lift and drag. Another thing they have that differentiates between them and Modrai are their extra digits. Elytrians have 2 long talon-like digits at the bend of their wings near the alula. These talons connect to the skeleton, and can be used like any other finger. The talons are used for climbing and hanging onto ledges or branches.
Due to the natural scarcity of the End, Elytrians have fat deposits in several different parts of their body for times of food scarcity. These fat deposits are in their wings, back, thighs, and chest. Other than the deposits though, their body type trends towards tight muscles, and overall thinness.
Elytrian auditory organs are inset to their head, and they have several feathers that can be moved at will to better direct sound to their ears.

Genetics and Reproduction

Due to their original migration to the End, they had a very limited number of mating partners. This biological pressure caused their evolutionary path to trend towards hermaphroditism. There are some feminine or masculine characteristics in the modern population, but these are only phenotypical, and not an indication of their sex or their gender.
Elytrians have live births, and the gestation period is 12 months, 4 months per trimester.
If an Elytrian is left alone in a deserted or isolated area, the body will (if healthy enough) kickstart asexual reproduction. Scientists and Elytrians aren't sure why this happens, but the theory is that it was necessary in times of very low reproduction and isolation.

Ecology and Habitats

The End, their native habitat, has layers. The End Islands that the portals open to are the lowest and coldest layers. If one were to fly high enough, they would find Islands with giant mushrooms, vines, plants, and most importantly, water. Elytrians call this section, called the Bounivous sphere, their home. They hunt enderman, fish, and forage for chorus fruits, shadow berries, and other native fauna and flora of the End.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Elytrians are omnivores, and primarily eat fruits and berries. They hunt enderman and other hostiles in the End, humans included if they pose a risk to the local community.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

It is rare that Elytrians leave the End. Due to a long history of poaching, slavery, and violence against Elytrians, they tend to avoid leaving unless necessary.
