Kerebos
The world of Kerebos (draconic root: ‘Keres’, sanctuary; ‘—bos’, home) is unique within the starscapes of the Nexus. Five centuries ago, extraplanar dragons arrived through a tear in the sky dubbed The Wyrmhole, pursued by an ancient evil. Following The Upheaval, the dragons quickly asserted themselves as kind and benevolent immortal beings possessing the cunning instinct required to shape the world of Kerebos into one they could teach, uplift, and — most importantly — rule.
In the time following their arrival, the Reach underwent significant, rapid, changes to its cultures, uniting the disparate continents and creating a more globalized world. Content that their efforts had paid off, the Prime Dragon Hierarchy left behind their myriad offspring to help shape and guide in their stead, and grew significantly more reclusive in their rule.
GeographyThough Kerebos has gained traction since the arrival of the Hierarchy, before the closure of the Wyrmhole this world was known as "The Reach". The region is entirely surrounded by violent, impassable brontide dubbed The Manastorm. This magical residue calms into The Arcane Sea, known for its calm stretches before horrific breaks of tempest. This calm has allowed trade and travel to proliferate, though in recent memory, the seas have become more dangerous and unpredictable.
Though it possesses a rich, aquatic seafoam colouring, the Arcane Sea is not entirely water. It has also been enriched by Arcanum, a naturally-occurring raw material that permeates Kerebos, serving as its lifeblood. Arcanum can be found deep beneath the earth in mineral pockets ripe for excavation, but it also crackles and hums in the air itself, giving most — if not all — of the Reach's population a deep-seated relationship with magic. History
The first arrivals to the Reach were the Celestials, arriving through the Manastorm some 2700 years ago in search of a cure for a sickness spreading through their population. Though no cure was found, they settled upon the barren lands and began to progenerate life. From within The Cradle of Life, they utilized the Stone, Storm, and Sea to sculpt their children in their image. To these early, primitive creations, they taught survival and culture and history before letting them out into the world, sailing east across the Arcane Sea to discover what laid beyond their creator’s sanctuary.
From there, countless societies rose. The elves and the orcs settled in the shadows of trees and tall mountains, warring for territory and resources. The dwarves and their ilk built sprawling kingdoms beneath the mountains of Frostide. Exiled humans settled territory disputes with steel and blood. Over time, their memory of their progenitors and their journey across the sea fell into fable and folklore.
The modern era is divided by the time before the opening of the wyrmhole (Paratolic Era/PE) and the arrival of the prime dragons (Drakari Arrivum/DA). Knowledge of the world in the Paratolic Era is often subject to propaganda and meddling. This codex endeavours to provide an unbiased view, free of Hierarchal influence and meddling.
