Fernando de Loeffre

With an easy smile and a disarming presence, Fernando de Loeffre would prefer it if you focused on his present, rather than his past. Though he makes no effort to hide his family pedigree — a son of the prestigious House de Loeffre of Rosegarden — any knowledge of the court's inner workings would quickly explain his absence from the famed Court of Thorns.

Background

Even under normal circumstances, Fern's status as spare of House de Loeffre would see his status within Rosegarden greatly diminished, but Fernando was born to Lady Jacinda as the child of an affair with an influential elven diplomat. Though Lord Erromon was not his father by blood, the man raised Fern as his own without question, though the obvious difference of his parentage was difficult to keep under wraps within the extended Court of Thorns.

Knowing well what bloody fate awaited him should he remain within the city's walls, he chose to leave. Despite protest from his mother, Lord Erromon approved of the decision, encouraging him to find his mettle and merit within the ancient tradition of The Wild Hunt, a common stomping ground for those seeking to leave the sphere of political influence, but maintain good standing within their family name. His natural skill with a blade and his unparalleled ability to fight while mounted saw him quickly rise through the ranks of the Hunt, under the watchful eye of a newly-appointed leader, Luria Frostfang.

As her influence grew, so to did Fernando's, remaining her left arm as she grew her retinue. When the invitation arrived seeking the Wild Hunt's aid upon Frostide, he did not immediately believe the trouble was of any concern of theirs. But Luria's insistence, as well as her stubbornness, saw him accompany her as second-in-command of the Frostide Expedition.

Campaign: Wither & Bloom

At the behest of his father, Vespera Toussaint was taken in as Fern's ward upon her arrival at The Rookery, though neither were clear on the matters of the debt to be repaid. Due to this connection, he took an immediate liking to the new arrivals, and tasked them with a simple quest: scout for some food and foraging within the Pine Wards district of the city. This led the party to several major discoveries, causing Fern signfiicant headache in the process.

Despite their penchant for getting into mischief, Fern saw the benefit of the group and continued to request their aid, believing them to be dependable and talented. When an early scouting mission was mounted upon their arrival in Sanctum, Fern entrusted the team to lead their own party toward The Alderwood. Under his leadership, a pair of huntsmen were killed by the corrupted minions of the Hag, Yoska. Upon their return to the city, his bond with Sparrow cemented further, and Fern admitted he had an inkling they'd met before, but had chosen to believe that impossible: but Sparrow confirm these suspicions, in fact, correct.

With the expedition now properly underway, Fern parted ways with Luria: while she ventured toward Helgamut, the tree at the center of the Alderwood, Fern led the party toward Fortitude, hoping to aid the Knights of the Stone Wheel with their own incurisions of monsters from the twisted weald. Appearance

Standing nearly 6'5, Fern possesses a tight, muscular build honed through his extensive riding training. His brown hair is combed back into a messy bun, the stray strands brushing the nape of his neck, with a scruffy cluster of facial hair. His gear is well-made but worn down, beginning to show signs of wear and tear. Rarely is he seen without his mount, a chestnut mare, who juxtaposes his own aloof pleasance with her gruff and grumpy nature.

Relationships
  • Sparrow Montmercy The pair formed a quick bond while camping at the Rookery, developing a physical attraction and acting upon it following a night of heavy drinking. Though there was some immediate awkwardness, both seem content to continue the relationship as it stands. While dining at Capilano's in Sanctum, Sparrow confirmed that he and Fern had met prior to their time with the Hunt, though that remains unknown to the rest of the party.
  • Vespera Toussaint Though he is officially the young woman's ward due to a debt owed between their parents, Fern views Vespera as he would any other member of the Hunt, though he does seem to enjoy teasing her more than he does the others.
  • Luria Frostfang Rarely seen in one another's company, but the trust and respect they carry for one another is clear.
Trivia
  • Despite his awe-inspiring height, he is still not as tall as Resham. It is also likely that, when she hits her growth spurt, Heidi Smashmouth will outstretch him as well.
