The Censorate
A branch of centralized bureaucracy paralleling the Ministries under the direct control of the Emperor. The Censorate checks the other Ministries for corruption; its director holds power but is largely disliked and feared by the other ministers.
The Minister of the Censorate during the time of Emperor Zou was Du Qian Men. Near the end of his reign, Zou opened up a new bureaucratic rank that created a powerful position within the Censorate, with the ability to hold the Minister of the Censorate and other staff accountable for any perceived offenses. The political fallout of this new position led to the War of Eternal Day.
