Lightning Birth of Coda

The Lightning Birth of Coda describes the history of Coda and the civilizations of Penaval Hill. Coda was a Gwraig Verth who was struck by lightning and grew to be a giant tree when she passed away. Several rumours as to what sort of tree Coda was are discussed and debated, but it is known that she propogated five daughters who became the Woodapple, the Medlar, the Oakapple, the Oakplum, and the Pomecholere (quince). These five daughters are said to determine who rightfully holds sovereignty of the valleys.
During the latter centuries of the Late Aquarian Age, this settlement was owned by the Catuvellauni Orgetoi and the Yanganti, a tribe of Gvaneti who split off from the Tarani further north. These two communities formed an aristocratic warband of outcasts who made their home in Threatening Valley and the surrounding Gloynbyw Coalfields, and the name of their ruling class- the "Oak Knowers" - comes from the belief that Coda was an Oak tree. They were generally responsible for protecting the forests in which the Halfwing and Myacoris have their communities, often built on spoil heaps or rifted terrain, in exchange for tributes and trade. However, constant raids and transfers of power leaves the area continuously unstable.

During one particularly destructive battle, the temple of Penaval Hill is destroyed by a brutal lightning storm, and the resulting destruction burns the small copse containing Coda and her daughters down. After that, no one ever goes back to Penaval Hill but scavengers. believing it to be cursed. Much of the reason that Penaval Hill attracts lightning is the sheer amount of metal in the area and dry brush terrain.

The legend of Coda's determination of sovereignty continues when the Catuvellani Aballo migrate into the area and Belvran is noticed and chosen by Fluria Redtail. During the courting process, Fluria brings Belvran to Penaval Hill and takes him to a stream or spring, where together they gather water and rotted leaves to fertilize the ground where Coda once stood, which they continue to do together. When Threatening Valley and its inhabitants begin to take offense to this and target the couple and their allies, Belvran's dowsing rod attracts lightning once more, growing Cuda and her daughters into a giant, amalgamated Gwraig Verth.

During the day in which Coda and her daughters live, many rush to take advantage of her fruits, knowing she will likely pass and stop living when the sun sets. These devotees help rebuild the forested areas around the valleys, and becomes the founding story for the Abellion Orchards Valley, the Golden Medlar Valley, and was somewhat successful in suppressing the chaos of Threatening Valley.
