Qenaara

The Sung City

Qenaara is known as the Sung City or the City of Moonlight, and is the seat of the Shaelarin Realm's theocracy, known as the Faerasiir. It is a city of ancient origin, and functions as proof to the world of the Elves' eternal devotion to the preservation and growth of the world.   "A mountain of crystal and water and green life erupting from the middle of a desolate waste, and I'm to believe no one should see it? Shall we also outlaw gazing at sunset? Shall we make illegal the beauty of a rainbow? Elven secrecy can not hide a motropolis of Mythral from the world!" -Oala'nesta   The city is crafted from pure Mythral crystal, sung over millennia into a mountain-city. Pure Sar flows in waves beneath the crystalline surface, bestowing an ambience of magic to the air of Qenaara. Mythral crystals are known to grow best in dim and dark environments, but it was discovered that it grows with utmost fervor under moonlight. Mythral seems to crave moonlight so strongly that Qenaara is under a permanent night, basking in moonlight as often as it will glow. This eternal night coming from the magic of Nisaraen, the idea that the mythral calls forth an eternal night. The elves believe that daylight is an impermanent idea; that some day, mythral shall supercede everything, and an eternal night shall bask all of Virosia.

Sar in Abundance

The magical energy of sar flows through the city and emenates around it in extremely high concentration compared to almost anywhere else in the world. Thus, those that are born and live here for extended periods are changed in ways peculiar. Every race is afflicted differently, but generally it takes more than the lifespan of other races to see the effects. Elves that have lived there for multiple centuries become imbued with ambient magic such that their sense for magic becomes innate.   Sar is known to have acute effects on the mind and soul, typically resulting in distortion of ones perception of time and space. Spending time in Qenaara is often reported as an ethereal and surreal experience, with a lack of firm understanding precisely of what had happened. Moments in wait are said to pass in both an instant and over a longer period, where actions of distinct thought occupy more time in one's existance than elsewhere. It feels as though ones life is lived more fully as a result, with moments that are not interesting or spent learning nearly wiped from the mind, though one acts fully as themself during this time.
