The Lady's Strike
The Lady's Strike is a magical shortsword disguised as a hairstick with transmutation magic. It is currently in the possession of the Noble House of Fenbrook and has most recently been worn/wielded by High Lady Maleena Fenbrook. Over the years, The Lady's Strike has been loaned out to galleries and museums as an art piece but, other than its designated handler while on loan, has never been used or worn by anyone other than a member of the Fenbrook House.
In its weapon form, The Lady's Strike is a Gladius Fundamentālis type shortsword, with a straight, double-edged blade and an elegant grip finished with a pommel shaped like a rose. The leather of the grip is black with platinum stitching and a lace-like pattern dyed into it, while the pommel rose has a bluish sheen to it. Oddly for a Gladius of its type, The Lady's Strike has a small guard that appears like a fine mesh of decorative lace. In its hairstick form, it is a platinum stick of approximately six inches long with a black lace and blue rose decoration, with the addition of two platinum chains that feature teardrop sapphires.
Most of The Lady's Strike's magical ability comes from the fact that it is disguised using transmutation magic. However, it is known to have a keened blade and has been magically enhanced for efficiency.
History
The Lady's Strike was commissioned as a gift by the High Lord of House Fenbrook to his wife in early 946 Y6A. The High Lady was due to attend an important event but the High Lord was not able to accompany her due to other engagements. The High Lord was worried about his wife attending the event unarmed (as it is not proper for Noble Ladies to openly carry a weapon) and he did not feel that providing her with a concealed dagger would be enough. The High Lord therefore commissioned The Lady's Strike with that in mind; and it was fortunate that he did. The event was targeted by terrorists, who attempted to take several of the higher ranking Noble Ladies hostage. However, the High Lady was able to fight back using The Lady's Strike, and the terrorists fled.
Since then, The Lady's Strike has been passed down through the House from High Lady to High Lady, with it occasionally being loaned to other Branch Heads before being returned. It is normally kept at the Fenbrook Estate near Muriedge, but will often travel with the High Lady to other locations.
