Reliquary
Reliquary is a divine magical longsword wielded by the High Knight of the Order of the Sacred Chariot, a Divine Order dedicated to Haul of the True A’arden Pantheon. While it itself is a Divine Artefact, and is primarily used to ordain the High Knight of the Sacred Chariot, it is also a vessel for other Divine Artefacts, used to secure, transport, or even use them, as required. It was gifted to it's first wielder by Haul Himself during the Age of Darkness, after the Cup of the Divine Sun was stolen by followers of Fachnan.
Said to have been crafted by Adarvan on Haul's behalf, Reliquary is a longsword with a Celestial Steel blade set into a grip of Celestial Gold. The guard is shaped like a sunburst and is set with sunstones and rubies. The grip is an octagonal tube decorated with raised shapes that resemble a stained glass window, and it features a golden tassel hanging from the pommel. The blade is known to shift size depending on its owner, though keeps the proportions of a longsword.
Reliquary is a magical weapon that deals additional Radiant damage to the wielder's foes. It gives off a permanent faint glow and has the ability to cast fire and sunlight spells. Additionally, Reliquary is quite literally a reliquary, able to store Divine Artefacts within itself and access a portion of their power. It can only store three Artefacts at a time, and is limited in the number of times that it can utilise their powers per day.
History
Due to its Divine nature, it is difficult to determine exactly when Reliquary was created. However, it was gifted to its first wielder, a mixed-heritage Orc-Human by the name of Conrad Ekkehart des Hohen Grates, by Haul just after the Cup of the Divine Sun was stolen by followers of Fachnan in the Age of Darkness. Sun Knight Conrad was tasked with seeking out the Cup, as well as any other relics that Fachnan's followers may have stolen, and returning them to their rightful place, using the sword as a means to collect and transport them safely. While Sun Knight Conrad discovered many missing relics during his search, he was not able to find the Cup, and he set up the Order of the Sacred Chariot to continue his mission, passing Reliquary down to his successor.
Since then, the sword has been passed down from High Knight to High Knight, with the mission for the Cup continuing throughout the centuries. One of its most famous collections was the retrieval of a Blighted Claw, said to have come from one of Ythrynaar's Generals, where the Claw attempted to brainwash Reliquary's Fisdraguan wielder, Mynvriel Kerrhyyuri, into destroying the sword. However, Reliquary retaliated to the insidious magics of the Claw, showing that it had some form of mind-enhancing benefits for its wielders, and High Knight Mynvriel managed to seal the Claw within Reliquary. During the time that the Claw was being transported back to the Temple of the Scaled Shield, High Knight Mynvriel spoke of a terrible coldness emanating from within Reliquary, constantly fighting against the warmth that the blade normally emitted. It has been speculated that the "otherness" of Ythrynaar's power may have allowed some of its essence to seep out, as Reliquary was predominantly created for the purpose of transporting items of A'arden origin, not Aberrant. After this encounter, High Knight Mynvriel was visited by Haul's Avatar, Aelius Deordine, who cleansed the blade of the lingering Aberrant power and gave him a scabbard, Confirmo, which would aid in future ventures that dealt with non-A'arden magics.
In the year 242 of the Age of Redemption, the Cup was finally found by the Sun Elven wielder, Seiriol Dawnlight, who managed to best the tricks and traps laid by the Fachnites to collect it from its hiding place. High Knight Seiriol used Reliquary to store the Cup and return it to its rightful place at the Temple of the Blessed Sun.
Since then, Reliquary has seen less active use, as the primary mission of the Sacred Chariot was complete. High Knight Seiriol was the last known active wielder of the weapon, with subsequent holders of the sword running the Order of the Sacred Chariot from their Order Hall, Fort Daybreak. Reliquary was most recently bestowed upon the Elf-Human Tanya Bleddyn (Littlewolf), who wants to take a more active role in the search for missing or stolen relics.
