Polekostey
Within all of Nachalo, the Prime Abyss, there is nowhere quite so remote and lonely as Polekostey, the Field of Bones. Located far from Mount Siryon in a part of the Abyss that even Demons dare not venture, it is what remains of the site of one of the great battles that took place before the Plane of Navia was split into two and Purgatorio created. It is considered one of the points of origin of the Abyss alongside Mount Siryon, with the infinite Realm spiraling and twisting outward from them. It is also the only place in the entirety of the Abyss where the Astral Void, a literal "edge" of the Realm, can be seen.
Polekostey's literal translation in Common is "Field of Bones", and it is so named because of the masses of Elder Fiend bones that litter the landscape, buried and shaping everything around them. Remnants of Fiendish magic make the land incredibly volatile, and Fiend Echoes stalk those who would wander there. Few can walk Polekostey unimpeded, but even those that can choose to avoid doing so, save perhaps for Azazel, who is known to frequently visit the remote landscape.
Geography
The Field of Bones takes up approximately 147 square miles within Nachalo and is wholly barren; seemingly endless grey sands and rocky outcroppings interspersed with hills carved from stone and filled-in ribcages. Bones of ancient Fiends litter the landscape, dating back to the Splitting of Navia; relics of gargantuan monsters that have long perished and been forgotten. At the farthest "edge" of Polekostey is a large cliff range, the Sanguine Cliffs, that rise some 660ft tall and stretches 12 miles in a vaguely horseshoe shape with the two tips meeting the Great Chasm. Within the confines of the U-shaped cliffs is a deep pit, 1000ft deep, at the bottom of which can be seen the roiling maelstrom of the Astral Void.
Localized Phenomena
Polekostey is the only place within either of the Navian Realms that the Astral Void can be seen. Looking down from the Sanguine Cliffs in the region, a chasm opens out into the swirling maelstrom of the Astral Void, and frequent Voidstorms leak through into the Prime Abyss from within.
Climate
Like the rest of the Grand Abyss, Polekostey is hot and dry under a burning red sun. While the temperature rises and falls with the turning of day and night, it remains permanently warm and never rains. However, close to the Sanguine Cliffs there is the chance of sudden freezing windstorms due to the influence of the Astral Void. Fiend Echos are also known to cause unusual weather phenomena in the area, including hailstones, lightning, and tornadoes.
Fauna & Flora
Polekostey is barren; completely devoid of any animal or plantlife. The only things that inhabit the area are Fiend Echos; entities similar to Ghosts or Echos, but instead of being Undead, they are simply reflections of powerful Fiendish entities that perished within the Field of Bones.
Natural Resources
Despite being completely barren, Polekostey contains rare assets such as Elder Fiend bones, Ancient Fiendish relics, and Demon Glass, a type of demonic gemstone found only at the site of Fiendish massacres. It is also filled with errant Fiendish power, which can be harnessed for the purposes of spellcasting, rituals, or increasing ones own strength. However, collecting these assets is exceptionally difficult and dangerous, as few can walk Polekostey freely.
History
Before the Splitting of Navia, when the Planes of Navia were a single unified Plane, the area that became Polekostey was the site of the last major battle in the First Fiend War. Azazel conducted the battlefield to cause absolute chaos, which ultimately instigated the Splitting of Navia and the formation of Purgatorio. The Abyss tore away from what became Infernos, and the new Plane of existence began spiraling out from Mount Siryon, where Azazel watched (and perhaps even manipulated) the destruction, and Polekostey, where the destruction originated. Everything within Polekostey at the time of the Splitting, Demon and Devil alike, perished as the power of the Astral Void momentarily washed through the area, splitting the battlefield in half and leaving behind nothing but bones and errant magic.
The other half of the battlefield is located in Infernos, a place known as the Field of Bones in Common, but known in Infernal as Polekistok. It is located in Perdition, where Phosphoros Luciferus resides, and like Polekostey, it is a place avoided even by Devils.
Over the millennia that followed, many Demons tried to reclaim the power that haunts the land of the Field of Bones, but none have managed to succeed save Azazel, who seemingly can walk the region freely. Polekostey has become something of a revered place to Demons; a monument to their chaotic and destructive origins, and a relic of a time long forgotten.
