Patagium
Patagium is an adaptable magical sword whose form resembles that of a bat's wing. It is collapsible, meaning that it can be more easily concealed, and is exceptionally lightweight for its size, weighing only half what a regular sword of its size would.
The sword is able to magically adapt to its wielder's height, as well as switch forms between a longsword and shortsword at the wielder's preference. The blade folds like a bat's wing, and the blade itself is made from a skin-like membrane that solidifies to a diamond-hard surface with an ultra-fine, magically sharpened edge. When folded, the membrane has a pinkish-brown appearance, but when solidified it takes on a more metallic hue. The armature of the sword is coppery in colour, with a simple round guard and a grip wrapped in soft leather, stitched with red cord.
Patagium is enchanted with magics that give it's razor-sharp edge a higher than expected damage output, and it is known to have been keened. It is also enchanted as a Returning Weapon, allowing it to be thrown and automatically return to its bonded wielder. Patagium also has the ability to cast spells that increase the wielder's stealth abilities.
History
The confirmed history surrounding Patagium is scarce, as rumours of the blade seem to crop up sporadically throughout history from the Second Age onwards. Few of these encounters can truly be verified through the Second to Fifth Ages, and it is only in scant records from the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Ages that drawings of the sword have been recorded.
The sword is in fact so unusual and unique, that some Weavecrafters suspect that it may have been the result of some form of Sarcomantic experiment. The fact that the blade seems to be crafted from some kind of magically preserved and enhanced organic membrane lends credibility to this theory, but as wielders of Patagium tend to avoid being in the public eye, it is difficult to confirm.
It is currently not known who the wielder of Patagium, nor where the sword physically is.
