Nocturne
Nocturne is a magical shortsword imbued with Divine abilities by the Sylvan Goddess Sileas. It was formerly passed down through a Royal Line of Changeling Druids that inhabited the Northern Region of Eirinn, though with the fall of the Line, and the destruction of their Druidic Circle, nobody is sure what happened to the blade.
Nocturne is a Fey Silver shortsword with a leaf-shaped blade etched with motifs of woven blackthorn surrounding Ogham Runes that spell out the surname of the Royal Family. The grip is formed in the shape of an owl, and the small, circular guard features an engraving of an owl in flight, its wings raised with the tips touching a full moon.
Specifics on Nocturne's abilities are unknown, as the Royal Family that wielded it were quite reclusive. It is known to be Divine in origin, and is therefore likely to have some Divine abilities attached.
History
Little is known about the origins of Nocturne, though it is known that it was gifted to the Royal Line of Vihan, a Changeling Druidic Line known as the Kings of the Stars, some time during the Age of Chaos. Nocturne was used to aid in the defense of the Druidic Circle of the Royal Stars, though the Circle itself was quite reclusive and few outsiders were ever able to witness the sword being used.
Nocturne was passed down through the Royal Line up until mid-1282 Y6A, when the Circle were annihilated by the Silver Hand, who had been seeking their destruction since the inception of their Stratocracy. The blade was never recovered by any member of the Silver Hand, suggesting that it had been smuggled out of the Circle before or during the attack. Rumour has it that one of the Royal Family, a young Prince, managed to survive the attack, though their whereabouts remain unknown to this day and they never returned to their Circle Lands. As Vihan is not an uncommon name, it is difficult to know if the supposed escaped Prince managed had a family, or indeed still lives themselves.
Significance
Nocturne is both a Divine Artefact and a Royal Emblem, only activating for those of a specific bloodline. It is often sought out by Silver Hand treasure hunters, who wish to claim the glory of either ending the line, or proving that the line is dead.
