Moon-Ward Stone
Based on the concept of Weave-Ward Stones, which block mana and/or magical effects, Moon-Ward Stones were created as a means to prevent the transformations associated with the Bestiathropes (Werebeasts). The Stones have become very rare since the Age of Arcana fell, and are now considered extremely valuable. The recipe for creating them has long been lost, and thus far attempts to recreate it have all failed.
Moon-Ward Stones are golden coloured gems with a silvery iridescence to them. They are usually fitted into enchanted silver settings, which help to stabilise the conflicting effects of the transformation and stone. The setting itself is not required, but using the Stones without one is considered more uncomfortable, with side effects varying from mild discomfort and headaches to full joint and muscle pain.
Discovery
The creation of the first Moon-Ward Stone is attributed to Artificer-Alchemist and Jeweller, Gallant Swift, a Navian who was himself inflicted with Lycanthropy. He hated how the transformations disturbed his workflow, as his creations often required fine precision and perfectly timed crafting actions.
Inspired by Weave-Ward Stones, which can block Mana or disrupt magical effects depending on type, Swift set about creating an object that would prevent his transformation and thus not disrupt his life and work.
It took Swift almost four years to create the first Moon-Ward Stone, with the final item alone taking six months to make. During the process, Swift also discovered Moonscreen, a potion which does not prevent the transformations, but does allow the drinker to retain their senses during them.
Utility
Moon-Ward Stones are used as preventative and protective measures against the Bestiathropy transformation. They stop the transformations from taking place and thus prevent the Bestiathrope from changing form and/or losing themselves.
Manufacturing
Crafting a Moon-Ward Stone requires a skill level of Rank 5 or higher due to the complexity and delicate nature of the processes. They are crafted through a fusion of Alchemy and Weavecraft and with the process requiring six months to complete. Artificer-Alchemists are best positioned for the creation of such stones, though Artificers of any kind are rarer now than they were during the Age of Arcana.
Social Impact
Moon-Ward Stones were considered a God-sent gift for many who had been cursed with Bestiathropy. It allowed them to maintain normal lives without fear of losing control of themselves whenever the Moon, Selene, was full.
