Lea of Whispers

Like much of the Border-Fey, the Lea of Whispers is not somewhere that one navigates to with true intent; it is rather a place that is stumbled upon by accident or luck. Categorised as an Ever-Shifting Locus, the Lea of Whispers can appear anywhere in the Border-Fey at any time, bringing with it magics gone awry and the disquieted dead whispering of troubles both real and imagined that may or may not have, or be about to, come to pass.

The atmosphere of the Lea of Whispers is said to be peaceful, though always tinged with a lingering sense that not everything is as it seems. Given the nature of Tìr na Sìthe and the Border-Fey, this kind of sensation within travellers originating from the Material Plane could be considered a given for the location. However, even residents of the Border-Fey who are used to the ebbs, flows, and shifts of the Border Mists speak of the sensation, suggesting that it is a far stronger power at work than is generally associated with the Border-Fey.

Geography

The majority of the Lea of Whispers is open grassland with occasional copses of woody trees and scattered ponds breaking up the otherwise monotonous landscape. The grasses there are a combination of typical forage plants and Whispergrass, a type of Fey grass that has a glass-like appearance and the magical ability to "whisper" a person's secrets out loud. The land is mostly flat, though there is known to be a slight hill toward the centre of the area, and ponds within are typically shallow. The largest pond in the Lea of Whispers is also the deepest, reaching ten feet at its deepest.

The entirety of the Lea is blanketed in a layer of fine, iridescent mist, that clings and swirls in a manner similar to the Border Mists themselves. The skies of the Lea are in a permanent state of twilight, with shades of blue, pink, purple and orange shifting as time moves on. There are always clouds of purple and gold in the sky, which vary in density and bring rain at their thickest.

Localized Phenomena

The Lea of Whispers is well known for its permanent sensation of something being amiss - more so than is usual within the Border Mists. It is additionally a known location for the disquieted dead, where ghosts and spirits will gather to seek solace.

The Lea is also known for its Whispergrass, making it particularly dangerous to cross in the rain due to the Whispergrass' ability to turn into razor-sharp shards when soaked.
