Hnizdo Mirmeksa

The Nest of Myrmex

Beneath the Mountains of Ruyina in Perdition, the grand halls and chambers of Duke Myrmex, the Myrmidon Queen, wind and twist their way through the rock and crystal, symbols of hard work, discipline, and unity within the Fiendish Realms. Carved by the dedicated Myrmidon Workers, Hnizdo Mirmeksa is considered astonishingly beautiful, despite being almost entirely underground. Palata Tsarytsi Mirmidona, the Chamber of the Myrmidon Queen, where Duke Myrmex holds her Council, is a particularly stunning example of what can be achieved with carving by hand, and it is little wonder that other heritages, Dwarves in particular, acknowledge the craftmanship within.

Hnizdo Mirmeksa is thought to be the second most beautiful crafted location in Infernos, behind the castle of Phosphoros Luciferus himself. As well as being the home of Myrmex, it is regularly visited by the Lord of the Nine, as well as his highest ranking attendant, Duke Aamon, known to be the consort of Myrmex.

Alongside the Myrmidon Queen, the underground chambers are home primarily to Myrmidons, Myrmecoleons, and Myrmekes; all ant-like Devils and Fiendish creatures.

Purpose / Function

Hnizdo Mirmeksa was built as the lair of Myrmex, as well as the "birthplace" of all Myrmidons. It is both a cave castle and an entire realm entwined as one, built deep into the heart of the Mountains of Ruyina and defended by magic and Myrmidon. Various chambers within act as living spaces, as well as storage, defensive, crafting, and training rooms. Toward the centre of the vast complex are a collection of chambers specifically dedicated to Myrmex, where she holds Council, entertains guests, detains special prisoners, and resides.

Architecture

The tunnels and chambers of Hnizdo Mirmeksa are carved from the rock and crystals of the mountains themselves, detailed with intricate patterns and reliefs that depict various scenes from the history of the Myrmidons, as well as the great successes of their Queen. They are twisting and winding in nature, often steep, with smooth floors and jagged walls and ceilings that can cause injury if impacted. The tunnels can reach twenty feet in diameter, with the chambers often stretching hundreds of feet in any direction. The tunnels and chambers are lit by the glow of naturally occurring Tenemerite (a form of Selenite also known in Common as Darkglow, that glows in the dark but turns greyish black in the light) and by Everburn Flames placed in strategic locations.

Defenses

Built into the heart of the mountains, access to Hnizdo Mirmeksa is only possible through one of the various Myrmidon Tunnels, or via the Vorota Mirmeksa, which is the only external section of the entire complex. The tunnels within the mountain are littered with traps designed to be easy for Myrmidons to navigate, but harder for non-Myrmidons to avoid. Magical defenses are also set at key intersections, including disorientation effects, and Myrmidon Soldiers roam the tunnels on patrol. The walls and ceilings themselves can also be a weapon or deterrent, as they are formed from jagged rock that can slash, bludgeon or pierce if impacted.
