Hallowed Barrier

Hallowed Barrier is a spell that can be used by Clerics and Divine Paladins to bar entry of Undead, Fiends, Celestials, Elementals, and Fey to a small area for a set amount of time. It is considered a blending of the higher Tier Hallow spell and the Weavecraft spell of Safety Dome. While it does not offer quite as complete a level of protection as Safety Dome, it has additional properties that offer it more utility in terms of dealing damage to foes.

The spell sees regular use amongst the Paladins and Clerics that work as Blade Wardens or Watchmen on the Isle of Swords, where Undead are highly prevalent. It is considered a staple for Divine Canonists when adventuring or engaging in battle, cleansing, or defensive operations.

Effect

The spell creates a spherical zone where Undead, Fey, Fiends, Celestials, and Elementals are barred entry. Entities of these types that come within 5ft of the Barrier are also subject to Radiant Damage. Ranged attacks made using spells that deal the Necrotic damage type are made at disadvantage.

The spell originates from the Holy Symbol used as a material component for the spell, and ends early if the Holy Symbol is moved. The Barrier effects creatures in both the Material and Ethereal Planes.

Creatures other than the types listed above are not barred entry and can move freely into and out of the sphere.

Manifestation

While manifestations of Hallowed Barrier tend to vary depending on the Caster, they all form a spherical barrier that glows with radiant energy.

Hallowed Barrier is a Tier 3 spell that utilises overflow of the Caster's Mana Pool in order to complete the ritual. Divine Clerics and Paladins must maintain their faith in their deity or pantheon in order to retain access to the flow of magic that allows them to cast spell.

Gestures & Ritual
  • Verbal Components require a prayer of some kind. Specifics are left up to individuals and Orders
  • Somatic Components involve moving in a circle around the Holy Symbol while splashing Holy Water on the ground
