Glossary of Terms

A'arde uses slightly different terminology for things that are otherwise familiar within the English language. This is partly to account for the otherworldliness of A'arde, but also preference toward terms that are actually meaningful and "technically correct" within A'arde's lore system.

As an example, "necromancy" is generally used in the English language to mean a form of magic that animates the dead, however the -mancy suffix actually means "divination". In A'arde, therefore, "Necromancy" is the act of divination via the dead, while "Necrourgy" (-urgy suffix meaning "work" or "technique") is working with the dead in the manner we consider typical necromancy.
