Force Sword

Force Swords are a type of melee weapon designed specifically for use by Graphiks, automatons or certain Constructs, such as Golems and Animated Puppets. They can only be used when physically attached to the entity in question, as they draw their energy from the power source. They cannot be used by creatures of flesh and blood, as there is no compatible energy source from which they can draw power; attempts to use life force or mana have thus far proven unstable and cruel, particularly as the Sword would need to be grafted into the flesh of the creature that wished to use it.

Force Swords can be of any size, but all resemble blunt training swords made of metal plates. They are generally brassy or silver in colour, and when activated will spark with electricity or other energy.

Force Swords deal bludgeoning damage in their standard form, but once activated will deal additional Force or Lightning damage depending on the power source. However, they are not considered "magical", as they do not work using Mana.

History

Force Swords were originally brought to A'arde with what became known as the Forge of the Quartet, the birthplace of the Graphiks. They were designed as defensive weapons for use by Constructs and automatons, and were never compatible with flesh and blood creatures. They were commonly created during the Age of Arcana for use with Animate Armour, Golems, or other defensive Constructs and automatons powered by Artifice.

After the Fall of the Age of Arcana, production of the swords all but ceased due to the loss of much of the knowledge required to create them, and they became extremely valuable for those who could afford to keep automatons or Constructs. Graphiks in particular value them highly, especially older models of Force Sword, as relics of their original culture.
