Fhennervastra

Literally translated as "Silver Shine" and known by it's cutesy nickname "The Bubble Sword", Fhennervastra is a quirky magical sword crafted for a spoiled Noble's daughter. However, despite it's adorable appearance, Fhennervastra is a sword with hidden spite woven into its very construction, as it has been cursed. Whoever attunes to the sword becomes cursed with an insatiable thirst that cannot be slaked except by drinking a very specific herbal infusion, and become incapable of unattuning from it. While it is possible to remove the curse from a person, the curse remains upon the sword.

Fhennervastra is a longsword crafted from silver, platinum and steel, with a beautiful hilt decorated with underwater images and with a distinctive, clear, crystal globe surrounding the crossguard mount at the ricasso. The inside of the globe, strangely, does not show the actual ricasso and crossguard mount, but instead appears to contain mist-like clouds that drift and swirl with movement. Two thin chains dangle from the pommel, holding tiny glass globes that swirl with iridescent, glittering gas inside.

Fhennervastra is nicknamed the bubble sword because of its ability to prestidigitate small bubbles as a distraction, and to create giant "bubbles" for protection. These bubbles act in a manner similar to a Globe of Invulnerability, but can take one of three properties. First, they can act as a Globe of Invulnerability. Second, they can resist physical attacks instead of magical ones. Third, they can be used to levitate. Only one type can be active at any one time, and there are limitations to how often they can be used.

History

A master craftsman was commissioned to make Fhennervastra in 1123 Y6A as a gift for a Nobleman's spoiled daughter, who considered taking up swordsmanship as a hobby. When the first iteration of Fhennervastra was delivered, it was indeed an exquisitely beautiful sword, as requested, but the daughter pitched a fit, berating the craftsman because the sword was not magical. The initial commission had not requested a magical sword, but the daughter further berated the craftsman, telling him that "of course it has to be magical, who do you think I am?", before threatening to have him beheaded for insubordination.

When she was eventually calmed, the craftsman was sent away to fix "his mistake". However, the Noble family did not realise that the craftsman was in fact the youngest son of a very powerful Mage, who was well known for her nasty temper and vengeful nature. The Mage helped her son "fix" the sword, but also planted a curse within it.

"Thirst for that which will never sate you, as you have thirsted for material possessions of power, and only a commoner's remedy will ease your malady".

The sword was given and the Mage whisked her son away after warning the Nobleman that his spoiling of his daughter would have consequences. The daughter immediately attuned to the sword, and the curse took hold. It eventually killed her several months later, as she overdrank and developed hyponatremia. The sword was then passed on to the Nobleman's niece on his brother's side, who likewise died of hyponatremia. The sword then made its way into the hands of the Nobleman's wife's sister, who once more died of hyponatremia.

The sword finally made its way into the hands of the wife's sister's daughter, who was also cursed, but figured out that the sword was the culprit. Being unable to break the curse on the sword, she broke it on herself and locked the sword away so that it could harm no other. Angry at her family for being so blind, she sequestered herself away to the other side of the continent and was not heard from again. The sword is supposedly still in the possession of her bloodline, but none know who or where they are.
