Blessed of the Gods

Gods often have favourites among Mortals, even if those individuals don't actively worship them or follow their tenets. This can often be because their actions or deeds have caught the eye of the Deity involved, or they may simply find the exploits of the person involved amusing amongst the daily lives of Mortals. These individuals are known as the Blessed, and are divided into two types: Favoured and Chosen.

Favoured of the Gods

Favoured of the Gods are gifted blessings, tokens, or artefacts of the Deity as a sign of their interest. While generally up to the individual Favoured how they use these blessings, some gifts come with caveats. Artefacts may be gifted with the condition that the Favoured do something for the Deity in return, while blessings can be revoked should the person anger the Deity that bestowed it. Not all Favoured realise that they have received a Deity's token or blessing immediately, as these can be subtle gestures delivered quietly, sometimes even using "normal" Mortal methods, such as tokens arriving with a postal courier.

It is considered acceptable for a Favoured to openly display a blessing, gift, or artefact, though excessive boasting can be seen as crude.

Chosen of the Gods

On occasion, a Deity may become so invested in an individual that they choose to Mark them as their own. These Marked Chosen are gifted part of the Deity's power through the placement of a Divine Mark placed upon the Chosen's body. The Marks grant the Chosen special powers and abilities, that grow and develop as the Chosen's relationship with the Deity in question develops. However, these Marks can lose their power should the Chosen anger their Deity or lose their favour. Chosen can sometimes be born with a Mark, though this is considered an extremely rare occurrence.

Chosen tend to keep their Patrons and status quiet, as openness about Divine Marks has on occasion led to bloodshed and conflict amongst opposing factions as they attempt to control the Chosen.

Divine Marks

Divine Marks often take the form of glittering scars, though their shape, colour and location can vary from person to person. The distinctiveness of the Mark denotes the level of relationship that the Chosen has with their Deity, starting from the mark being invisible unless used, to it being a well defined, glittering entity permanently upon their body.
