Week 1: Nourishment
Assignment 1
Think about ways the theme of Nourishment affects your world. Do people generally have what they need? What happens when they don’t?
It's a harsh world, with frequent cycles of destruction and pioneering. So you either need strong roots, or be quick to adapt and a generalist.
Assignment 2
Download the pledge document and fill it out with your goal for Summer Camp!
I'll go for copper again! I know I take about 2 days to submit one article. So for copper I'd need 16 days of 'work'. In a month that is enough for me. I like that amount. I don't see a reason to make more content with less quality to reach silver.
Based on your motivations, choose which area of your world you want to focus on. This could be a geographical area (e.g. a new continent) or a conceptual area (e.g. factions, magic, etc). Answering this question will help you focus your efforts for summer camp! And it will also help you decide your goals for the month—that is, how many prompts you’re aiming for!
I'd like to focus more on my:
- Book themes (community, tolerance, gender, what are my Roseburn themes?)
World themes:
- Taming the wild
- Finding warmth amidsts the cold (metaphorically and literally)
- Discovery of beauty amidsts danger
- Perseverence and acceptance of setbacks
- Community and harmony
- and my TTRPG settings. Like castles, fun little side stories etc
Assignment 3
If you found any outdated articles in your world, update the most important ones now! Do the same with your worldbuilding meta.
Make a list of my 'core articles'
- First ones that come to mind about the history:
- History of Ûnduleah - timeline
- Kádi Calendar of the seasons
- How the Ancients made de dwarves
- Aviyon, the great wanderer
- Shiri's funeral
- Ancients and Humans/dwarves/Quoyah -> Need better introduction articles
- Ones about the new developments in the world
- Celestial pylons
- Keadin
- Bloomingtown -> maybe make a map in Inkarnate?
- Dam -> does this need anything?
- How the humans landed on Ûnduleah -> maybe write this into a short story?
- The fallout between the humans and the dwarves -> needs some exposition article?
- valley of the dancing moonlight
Week 2: Roots
Assignment 1
Look at the cultures and areas you’ll focus on for Summer Camp, and think about how their past shaped them.
I think I've done this already quite a bit:
Dwarves: ancients, dark days, cold age, silver rain: Survival, cold, structure, small communities.
Humans: ancients, southern continent, silver rain: Rejection, escape, power, redemption, respect.
hmmm, have I just made the humans the baddies? I suppose it does kinda reflect my world-view. But perhaps I shouldn't call them 'power hungry', just more like: looking for redemption, often in toxic ways
Quoyah: ancients, source trees: Preservation, harmony, growth, life.
Assignment 2
Go to your world’s homepage and imagine you’re a new reader discovering the setting for the first time. What should you change to make the experience more engaging?
I've added an extra sentence about my world's themes, hopefully it'll help to explain, but mostly invite people in to read more.
- I want a cool, see-through background. like https://www.worldanvil.com/w/alana also, look at their book of plants . goodness that is STUNNING
- I already did it! or well, not see-through in the way they did it, but I used an original artwork of myself, and completely updated my CSS of my world :D Not quite exactly how I want it, more like 80% towards how I imagined it, but good enough for now. 3 days of coding was enough for this month hahah.
- https://www.worldanvil.com/learn/bbcode-tutorials let's give it yet another go, try to understand the BBC coding, Use Alana as inspiration, and try to recreate something similar for my own world -> I want some more 3-30-300 layout. Have for example a big interactive map right underneath the hook article? Also, use more bullet points, bold text to make it easier to scan.
Assignment 3
Find your earliest worldbuilding project. What mistakes did you make that you want to avoid? What good ideas from those early days can you integrate into your current project? Remember to take a moment to be proud of how far you've come!
My very first worldbuilding concept was a big magical dome, and the further towards the edge, the more dangerous it became. Kinda fun concept, but a bit linear in hindsight. I like how the different Pylons have different features, which gives a lot of creative freedom. And with the harsh world it still is, the idea still is there, just more subtle with the town being the safe 'dome', and the wilderness outside the unsafe outside.
Week 3: Metamorphosis
Assignment 1
What transformations and adaptations have the people in your world gone through? What changes are going on right now… and who is trying to stop them?
The world is warming up, ecosystems are collapsing, but new ones are emerging. The arrival of humans have put the community value under stress.
Assignment 2
Choose a new genre, style, or author, and take a look at their art! Write what you learned from them and what inspired you.
Assignment 3
Read a couple of articles from the community, give them a like (and why not a sticker!), and write about what inspired you.
Week 4: Tomorrow
Assignment 1
Think about current events that will impact the future. Who is working to create a specific kind of future?
Well, the pylons have huge magical power, but nobody (including me) really knows how to harness that power. Broken off fragments (shards) also give lucky finders potentially a lot of power, if you learn how to use the fragment well. People seeking power, will most likely seek to 1) gain access to a pylon or at least gather shards. 2) discover how to use that magic for their own gain. People seeking to better the world will probably do the exact same to be fair.
Assignment 2
Make sure everything’s ready—from your writing space to your writing schedule—before Summer Camp begins!
Assignment 3
Who or what will help you achieve your goal? What will your sharing strategy be during Summer Camp?
I don't really have a writing buddy, I have one friend who writes, I'll ask him. Also I don't have any discord writing buddies, and the worldanvil discord is a bit overwhelming atm. If anyone wants to be my summer camp buddy, send me a message, I'd like that.
I'd like to focus more on my:
- Book themes (community, tolerance, gender, what are my Roseburn themes?)
- World themes: (Taming the wild, Finding warmth amidsts the cold (metaphorically and literally), Discovery of beauty amidsts danger, Perseverence and acceptance of setbacks, Community and harmony)
- Environmental / wild dangers of the world
list my 'core articles' and update those
- Introduction to my races
- Map of bloomingtown?
- Dam -> does this need anything?
- How the humans landed on Ûnduleah -> maybe write this into a short story?
- The fallout between the humans and the dwarves -> needs some exposition article?
What happened during the dwelling days on the surface?
Best of luck with those goals! I'm sure you will get some writing done during summer camp.
