The One

The title of "The One" is not something that is applied for, rather the individual is found and chosen specifically for the role by the Arcane Circle. However, there are certain qualities that the Arcane Circle favors and searches for when trying to find a new One. The individual in question must be a 20th-level wizard. If there are no 20th-level wizards across Minas Torgul, the Arcane Circle may look for other wizards of comparable power and begin to prepare him to take the title upon reaching 20th level. If there are no wizards near enough in power to be considered for the role, the Arcane Circle holds an election, whereby the new One is selected from the wizards in the Arcane Circle. Additionally, since one of the duties of The One involves protecting the Material Plane from otherworldly threats such as invasion from the Nine Hells, a new One is typically somebody who has a lot of experience with extraplanar beings.

Any living being with suitable skill in magic may be eligible to hold the title of The One.

The individual selected to become The One must enter the Tower of Isengard themselves. Upon entering it for the first time, there is only one floor, with no perceptible walls or ceiling. Inside of the room is the pedestal upon which the Bloodfire Stone rests. The prospective wizard then places their hand on the stone, and if they be worthy in the eyes of the previous Ones, he or she is immediately bonded with the stone and all of its previous users.

The One uses the Tower of Isengard as a staging area and home base, for their operations and dealings outside of the mortal realm. It is the responsibility of The One to be the protector of the Material Plane, and as such, they do not concern themselves with issues arising on the Material Plane. The only thing on Ætherius or another planet in this plane that would concern The One would be an event that threatens the entire Material Plane itself.

It is the duty of The One to find and eliminate threats to the Prime Material Plane, and as such, The One has dealings with each and every being of substantial power across the multiverse. This involves spying on all forms of powerful beings such as Tiamat the Queen of Evil Dragons, Orcus the Lord of Undead, and Asmodeus the ruler of the Nine Hells.

The One has access to near-limitless power, if not limitless power, and access to the memories and stored power of each wizard before them that has held the title of The One.

There is no way to separate The One from his title, or the Bloodfire Stone. Even a greater deity like Asmodeus, or a primal god like Al'Sarab cannot dismiss The One from the powers of the Bloodfire Stone.

Melalekin "The One" Allarod claimed his title when he single-handedly repelled the invasion of Ætherius by the armies of Baator. When the combined armies of The White Mountains, Tasavalta, and The Sunderlight Forest mustered together and failed to repel the invasion, all hope seemed lost. Then, Melalekin emerged from his temple at the peak of Mt. Aldrexus in Arborlon hold where he had been meditating for seven years and a day. In a matter of minutes, he decimated the devil army with storms of fire, blizzards, and quakes, and smote Asmodeus himself, banishing him back to his layer of Nessus. Before banishing him, Melalekin announced that he was "The One" who stands at the pinnacle of all worlds, that he would protect the Material Plane until the end of time, and that he would destroy any beings who threaten it regardless of the cosmic balance.
