Noxcaleos

For more lore on their biology and culture, check out the Noxcaleos species article.
ability score increase: Most Noxcaleos are inquisitive and flexible, commonly reflected in their Intelligence score increasing by 2 and their Dexterity score increasing by 1. You may choose to increase other ability scores following the Customize Your Origin rules in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything if you and the DM find it appropriate for the character.
age: Noxcaleos start their life as a free-swimming, beastial larva, which, over the course of 6 years of hunting electric jellyfish, transforms into what could be considered an adult Noxcaleos. They tend to live short lives of roughly 60 years, making sure their impact is felt on the world.
alignment: Their strife to perfect their technique gives them the traits of Blue, while their value of individuality from their octopus-like mindset has them leaning towards Black.
Size: Medium
speed: 30ft, swim speed equal to walk speed
Languages: You learn one language typical of the starting area and one language of the Noxcaleos group.
race features:
Superior Darkvision. Accustomed to the dark oceanic depths, your white glowing eyes grant you superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can discern color in darkness up to 30 feet of you, but you can only discern shades of gray beyond that.   Sunlight Sensitivity. The surface world is as alien to you as you are to it. You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.   Amphibious. You can breathe air and water, and you have a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.   Moist Skin. In order to gain the benefit of a long rest, you need to either wear magical armor or submerge yourself in water for at least 4 hours each day, the latter can be done as part of a long rest.   Electric Affinity. Since there is no fire underwater, Noxcaleos have used their innate electric powers for attack and defense and now use them to power their inventions. You know the Shocking Grasp and the Light cantrips. Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma is the spellcasting ability for these spells (your choice when you select this race).   Shock Protection. You have resistance to Lightning damage and have advantage on saving throws against being incapacitated.   Crafter. You are proficient in a set of artisan’s tools of your choice. At the end of a long rest, you can use them to create a common magic item from one or more mundane items appropriate for the sets of tools you have proficiency with and access to, at DM’s digression. If the item involves casting of a spell, you must know that spell in order to create that item. If you attempt to create another common magical item using this feature, the previous magical item looses its magic and becomes a mundane version of that item.
