When you cast this spell, a small, swirling barrier rushes up around you in a 10-foot sphere. Choose an energy type, the barrier takes on properties of that energy type as it surrounds you. Moving while maintaining the barrier is difficult, causing all terrain to be treated as difficult terrain to the caster while this spell is maintained.   All creatures inside the barrier have resistance to the chosen energy type, however any character that attempts to enter or leave the barrier takes 1d6+2 damage of that energy type without the benefit of the resistance granted by this spell.   As A Ritual This spell can be cast as a Ritual that takes 10 minutes. When doing so, a mark is developed at the center of where the sphere will develop. This mark lasts for 1 hour. The caster of the spell may activate it as an action, or spend 1 minute to teach another person how to cast it for an action.   When activated, it requires the person that activated it to stay and maintain the barrier. When cast in this way, the barrier cannot be moved.
 
At higher levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage dealt for entering or leaving the barrier increases by 1d6+2.   At 5th level, the resistance granted by the barrier is replaced with immunity.
