Personal history
From a young age Hiryu was raised and trained within Tsutsumi City to become the most powerful and loyal member of the Tsutsumi Military Force. Born from unknown parents and stripped away at birth, the young child was indoctrinated by the Shogun's advisor Kensaku, in order to create the perfect warrior for Tsutsumi. Hiryu was a prodigy in combat and was quickly recruited into the military force at the ag of 14 years old. There he would spend the follwoing years rising through the ranks at a shocking rate, joining the 1st Division after only 4 years within the force.
During an expedition to the Heaven's Spine, the 1st Division was tasked with intercepting criminals who had been sneaking through the mountain passages. During this mission his squad was attacked by the legendary beast of the mountain. Is slayed his entire squad leaving Hiryu to fight it off alone for 5 days and night. Unable to best the beast, Hiryu was knocked unconscious. He awoke days later in a small village named Kotoshi Village. It was a place he had no idea even existed, however the villagers treated him kindly. Their acts of kindness was a stark contrast to the cold and callous environment that he'd known until now. But more than their kindness, the state of living in Kotoshi was appalling compared to the lives people lead in the northen divide, and it would shock Hiryu that most of the southern divide live in ppor conditions like this, and would receive minimal help from the capital. Before leaving Hiryu promised the villagers of Kotoshi that he would send help their way.
After recovering Hiryu made his way back to Heaven's Spine passing through the Shizuo forest along the way where he saved two young boys, before continuing his journey. Upon reaching Kibouki Town, Hiryu was met with another revelation, that the southern people were living discordant lives, at odds with one another due to the awful circumstances of the South. Once again no help was seen anywhere from the capital. Almost as if the southern divide was an afterthought. This thought disgusted Hiryu. The fast that he was raised to be Tsutsumi's strongest warrior, yet half of Tsutsumi itself was struggling to live without him even knowing it.
Once Hiryu returned to Tsutsumi City, he confronted Kensaku about the situation in the southern divide and why they were being left to die on their own. In response, Kensaku revealed the truth about Tsutsumi, that the island would be swallowed by the waters around them in a mere decade, thus requiring they save at least some of the Tsutsumi people rather than none. Despite his reasonings, Hiryu tried to object against Kensaku, stating that they should be trying to save all of Tsutsumi. Seeing his defiance, Kensaku activates a curse which he had implanted in Hiryu when he was an infant. This curse would turn Hiryu into an undead servant, unable to defy Kensaku every again.
