Personal history

Alastair Blaze was born on July 28, 1980. He grew up in Carson City, Nevada with his parents and older brother. Alastair has been into magic for as long as he can remember. Though he doesn't remember it, since he wasn't even 3 years old yet, he saw David Copperfield's TV special where he made the Statue of Liberty disappear and was immediately obsessed with magic. A couple years later his parents (Gary and Patty) got him a magic kit for Christmas and he has been creating illusions ever since. He was always outgoing and energetic, but never really made a lot of friends as a kid. Not because he wasn't likeable, but because he would rather spend his time perfecting his skills as a magician alone in his room.
His parents were always supportive of his passion, taking him out to magic shows and buying him new equipment for his tricks, when they could afford it. However there were a couple times that Alastair had overheard his parents wishing that he'd be more like his older brother, Craig.
Craig was always the perfect kid, getting perfect grades, being the captain of his high school football team, graduated early from college with his doctorates degree, and has since become a renowned doctor and recently the chief surgeon at the hospital he works at. Naturally, this cast a big shadow for Alastair to walk in and was constantly compared to his older brother, especially since he was never good at keeping up with his school work and eventually flunked out of high school.
The day he turned 18, he left Carson City and took up the name Alastair Blaze for his stage persona. For a few years he lived out of his car, always searching for another gig. He performed at birthday parties, weddings, school assemblies and sometimes even just in a park with a jar placed out for tips. In 2007 he got onto the competition show America's Got Talent, but didn't make it passed the 2nd round and was later told that it was likely because he didn't have a compelling story to keep the audience engaged. Luckily, his act was seen by a talent agent, Mary Hillard, that thought he was good enough to at least make a living out in Vegas. She set him up with one of the hotels and soon enough he had a monthly show in one of their smaller auditoriums.
About a year after he got his contract, he met a woman by the name of Ranette Silver at one of his shows. She had just opened up her magic shop, Dynamic Emporium, and invited him to come check out her wares. He hasn't bought a single piece of equipment from anywhere else since and they have grown to be rather close business associates.
Over the next few years he developed a rivalry with fellow magician Alexander Blake. Though the rivalry is real, they both over exaggerate the rivalry for the sake of show biz. Alastair considers Alex one of his best friends and is one of the few people who even knows his real name. For the last 3 years they have hosted an annual "Battle of the Mages" show together.
In the summer of 2012, Alastair was walking around doing his normal street magic/promotion when he caught a young man named Wylan trying to take his wallet. Instead of calling him out immediately and turning him in, Alastair followed and studied the boy. He noticed that the kid had great skill with picking pockets and slight of hand and made one of the scariest and biggest decisions of his life. He followed the boy to where he was staying, an abandoned house on the outskirts of the city, and confronted him there. After a lengthy discussion, he managed to convince Wylan to study under him and be his apprentice and assistant.
Nowadays, Alastair and Wylan share a place and work together. When they are out promoting the monthly show, Wylan reverse pick pockets a coupon for the show into the pockets of the "audience."

Mental Trauma

Alastair was chased and attacked by a goose when he was a child and has been afraid of all birds ever since. He often freezes up when one gets close.
