Physical Description

Cad is a semi-muscular Kenku with a slender physique, allowing him to move freely about with his lanky, yet dexterous self.

Body Features

Cad’s most notable bodily features are his jet black feathers, a gift from his Kenku heritage, as well as his long beak, purplish black in color.

Facial Features

Cad, being of bird folk origin, lacks most distinguishing features on his face due to the abundance of feathers and lack of a normal mouth.

Identifying Characteristics

Cad can easily be identified by his bright blue eyes and his iconic cowboy hat and duster. He is easily distinguishable within a crowd and appears out of place compared with the rest of the world.

Physical quirks

When discussing business or listening to a conversation, Cad will often be seen fidgeting with something visibly (a die, weapon, or other miscellaneous object) while keeping directing eye contact with whomever he is talking with.

Apparel & Accessories

Cad is never without his trusty hat or his lucky duster. When off the job, he can be seen with a cigar in his beak. He also carries without exception his iconic weapon, Ol’ Faithful, a one of a kind invention of his that he sees as a good luck charm.

Personal history

Cad Leviticus Bane (born Anchor-Splash Ship-Horn) was born in the port town of Tombstone, a lowlife town off the coast of Desvla.
 
Tombstone was contested against by two factions, those of the Kenku, ravenfolk of stealth and thievery, and the Thri Kreen, insectoids of charisma and power. Throughout its history, Tombstone was the battleground of this feud, and ruling sides changed for generations. However, in 716, the Kenku claimed victory over Tombstone and secured it through the bonds between the four Kenku posses.
 
Cad's clan, The Passerine Posse, were a group of thieves and mercenaries who stole, robbed, and ruled the ports of Tombstone throughout his childhood. As a young Kenku, he was taught to stow small weapons and pickpocket in order to hone his skills as a thief. As he grew, his clan allowed him and other foundlings to have free reign over the city. In this time, Cad mastered his skill, and became one of the most agile Kenku of the posse, able to manipulate his hands at never before seen speeds.
 
During his time in the city, Cad formed a secret friendship with a Thri Kreen named Tess after saving his life from the undead of Tombstone's deserts. Together, they formed an unstoppable duo, capable of robbing and heisting without ever being seen or caught. Cad’s whole life would change however on a fateful Winter’s day. The day the Gnomes arrived.
 
After a booming fall festival, and a boon in trade agreements, Tombstone welcomed a group of traders from a far away land known as Dwemer. This strange band was gifted in the art of construction and tinkering, a trait never before seen by the Kenku rulers. While his kin ignored the intelligent creations of the Gnomes, Cad envied them. He wished to learn the ways of the mind, and hone his skills to become a great craftsman. He apprenticed under the great craftsman Guhnderish Tinkertop, a man of stoic nature, who appreciated the workings of powder and chemicals. After years of mastering his work, Cad adopted a more fitting name for himself. He decided to pursue his knowledge in powder to help his people become more than just thieves and scoundrels. He spent many more years of his training and youth crafting something new. An intricate weapon who’s power matched, and even outperformed that of a bow or crossbow. He christened it the firearm.
 
With Cad's new weapon fully constructed, Tess became envious of his friend's success. As Cad poured more time into his inventions, he became more distant from his skullduggeries and began to plea Tess to stop his ways. Tess, however, realizing his companion was gone, decided to take advantage of Cad's work. Stealing the blueprints and construction logs from Cad's workshop, Tess vowed to end the Kenku and destroy his once close friend's future.
 
Soon to come would be Cad’s coming of age test, a rite of passage that allowed Kenku Youth to become supporters and members of the clan. Cad, along with 2 of his brothers, were tasked with robbing an ancient automaton, capable of extreme destruction from an abandoned workshop deep within Thri Kreen territory. Cad, unaware of Tess's change of heart, disclosed his mission to his once close friend. That night, while Cad rested, Tess entered the workshop, using his friend's knowledge over the years to attune to the ancient automaton. As the enchantment settled, the creature rose, inquiring to its new master as to what it should do. Tess, in a moment of resolve, gave the construct one command, kill Cad and whatever other wretches were tasked with retrieving it.
 
The next day, Cad and his brothers ventured to the site, undetected. After discovering the machine, the party were forced with finding a way to move the construct. Cad's brother, Pebble-Tap Nail-Bang, decided it would be best to activate the thought-to-be docile machine and simply command it to follow. Against Cad’s judgement, his brother activated the golem, engaging Tess's sinister command. The golem rose, releasing a horrifying mechanical shriek, tearing apart the sound barrier, terrifying the three kenku. It began to raise its arm, and with a sudden smash, it crushed Cad's brother, snapping his body in two. His younger brother, Wind-Blow Bottle-Smash, began to flee towards his older brother. Cad reached out to grab his brother, but he was too slow. As his brother's hand met his, a loud cracking sound broke the air. His brother's body fell limp, his legs and lower body being pulled apart by the golem, his hands and torso still in Cad's hands. The golem approached onward, unphased by its own brutality. Bashing Cad against the wall, it prepared to make its final strike. In a moment of loss and desparation, Cad fired upon the creature with his gold-laced firearm, a mere prototype of his work. Through sheer luck, the bullet slid in between the construct's slits of armor, ricocheting within the confines of its chassis. It fell to the ground, defeated, destroyed, and dismantled. Cad grieving the grotesque deaths of his brothers searched for a reasoning to the construct's behavior.
 
That's when he heard it. A slow chuckling coming from above the fallen monstrosity. Standing in the rafters above him stood Tess, admitting his disappointment in Cad's survivability. Unloading the rest of his clip, Cad attempted to destroy the evil that had taken away his family, but alas, Tess escaped unscathed. Cad sat there, alone, faced with the cold reality of his loss.
 
Cad, infuriated by his friend's betrayal, carried his dead brethren back home, and told his people of Tess's actions. Outraged by his alliance with a Thri Kreen, and believing him to be not only a fool for wielding such a disgraceful weapon, but a murderer for allowing his brothers to die, his clan banished him, telling him to never return lest he be executed for his crimes.
 
With the Kenku facing heavy loss, Tess and the Thri Kreen used the moment of weakness to seize Tombstone, leaving the town in ruin.
 
Cad, hellbent on redeeming himself for his sins and destroying Tess, left home for Eldia, a supposed land of "heroes" where he could hone his skills as a slinger and find allies in his quest to reclaim Tombstone. Little did he know of the journey in store for him...

Education

While not having a formal education, Cad is quite an intelligent indivual, who's skills are specialized in invetion and scheming. His years on the streets of Tombstone have led to him having a crafty nature, with the ability to come up with plans and ideas on the fly.

Employment

At the moment, Cad servers under an adventuring party who are formally known in Eldia as The Crimson KIngs, despite the name never coming up. Under this party, Cad has completed several contracts involving the hunting of mythical beasts, the capture of a powerful cultist leader, and now serves as a soldier to the Goliath Chief Gungyu.

Mental Trauma

Cad has been irrevocably scarred by the death of his two brothers. Due to the nature of their deaths and the witnessing of their cruel dismemberment, Cad is often time horrified when his allies gruesomely kill enemies.
 
Cad's PTSD has also manifested itself in other forms. Due to the lucky nature of the construct's defeat by his revolver, Ol' Faithful, he has severe attachment issues. Without his gun, Cad becomes frantic and panicked, often going to the extreme to reunite with his sidearm.
 
During his time in Eldia, Cad was also exposed to a mysterious cult, who's religion involved the imbedding of crystals into their chests. While researching and collecting these crystals, Cad accidentally activated them, draining his sanity while increasing his mobility. After doing this multiple times, he was only stopped from going insane by his party members, who destroyed the crystals and reversed the effects. While his sanity was technically restored, Cad is still plagued with visions from the cult and has a severe obsession with the power the crystals hold.

Known Languages

Being born in Tombstone, Cad was raised under the protective rule of his clan. Through his people he became fluent with both Auran, the language of his Kenku brethren, and Common, the language of Desvla.
 
During his time studying under Sophist Tinkertop, Cad familarized himself with the teachings of the gnomes. He became fascinated with tales of the Feywild, and the bountiful magic held within its forests. Thus, Cad dedicated himself to learning Sylvan, the language of the Feywild.
 
Due to the sudden adoption of a red dragon wyrmling during his time in Eldia, Cad sought to be able to speak to his party's newfound friend. Knowing his close friend would be of help, Cad enlisted the help of Vilkas Unknown, and through use of his mimicry and Vilkas' black dragon heritage, he learned to speak Draconic.

Personality

Motivation

When he left his town in ruins, Cad sought to leave home and redeem himself, hoping to gain reputation and allies in order to one day reclaim his homeland. However, since then, Cad has taken up the mantle of assisting his close friends on their journeys, and has left his true motives on the backburner. While always wishing to one day save his people, Cad's motivation always lies with that of his allies, wishing for them to succeed where he cannot.

Family Ties

After his banishment by his clan, Cad’s family ties have all but been broken. However, following the events of his banishment, and the formation of a new adventuring party, Cad has since adopted Uthal Kalex Malborr and Vilkas Unknown as his family.

Religious Views

Cad believes with all his heart that a person’s life is their journey to make, and he is no one to interfere. However, if someone decides their journey takes precedence over others, there will be a problem real fast.

Hobbies & Pets

Cad, during his time in Eldia, through random luck and some well used jerky managed to tame a wild Bulette. After managing to train the beast to respond to Sylvan, he named her Bloodhound, and she's been his loyal companion ever since.
 
While lacking the carefree nature of a hobby, Cad is one with his tinker's tools. Spending most of his freetime whipping up new inventions, tinkering is like second nature to him.
 
In recent months, Cad's practice of the arcane has greatly increased as well, leading him to delve into the world of enchantments and curses.

Cad speaks with a very strong accent, a native dialect from his hometown of Tombstone. At times, when trying to seem inconspicuous, he will attempt to drop the accent, with often mild success.
