Personal history
Pell grew up in the Great Valley District, where they attended school like any other child their age. While a good student, Pell had a penchant for getting into trouble. It started with harmless pranks and small-time schemes—childish business ventures with questionable ethics that often ballooned out of control. Concerned by her child’s behavior, Pell’s mother sought to redirect that boundless energy toward something constructive. She encouraged Pell to take up reading and theater.
To her relief, Pell took to both with enthusiasm. They were often found with their nose buried in a book, or captivating instructors with a knack for performance that seemed far beyond their years. But trouble, as always, had a way of finding Pell. One day, while perusing the library, they stumbled across a collection of books on sleight of hand.
At first, Pell used their newfound tricks and theatrical charm to entertain classmates and earn a few coins—just enough to treat their friends to something sweet. But soon, the thrill of performance wasn’t enough. The challenge itself became the draw. Pell began pickpocketing—not out of need, but out of curiosity and the rush of risk. They set personal challenges, like the time they stole a city guard’s coin pouch four times in one day—returning it each time without the guard ever noticing.
Pell cared little for what they took. It was all about the game. So much so that a corner of their room became a shrine of trophies—trinkets, baubles, and bits of nonsense lifted from unsuspecting marks.
It was that pile of trinkets—and, more impressively, the day Pell managed to steal Rembrandt’s Ring of Water Walking right off his hand— that convinced Rembrandt that Pell has potential and it would be wasted where they are now.
