Captain Scharf is a career soldier, or at least he wanted to be. He tried to join the Riek-Marine at an early age but was rejected because he was too short. So he joined the Altdorf City Watch instead marrying the daughter of his landlord Christina. He quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant but his officious attitude and arrogant manner made him so unpopular he decided to transfer to the Militia and accepted a post as a Sergeant in the Nulner Militia.
 
He has done well and his natural leadership ability was eventually rewarded with a promotion to Captain four years ago.
 
His combat skills are above average and he trains regularly taking great pride in being better than his men at everything.
