Death was a common thing to her from a young age. She was in the middle of what would be 7, though her siblings had troubles leading to untimely death. Her father had been seeking a son but by the 6th it was only Elowen and her 2 older sisters who would survive until the 7th when her younger brother was born in the spring of 301 SA.
Elowen's 2 older sisters often ganged up on her, jealous of her fathers doting towards her. She was, after all, the youngest and most precious. All through childhood they would set up tricks and traps to attempt to humiliate or get back at their younger sibling. Elowen would often shove off these childish attempts though, contempt in her parents love and her diligence in study. She would spend most of her childhood either high up in the pearl spire or alone in the Court Garden, reading and studying.
By the age of 18, Elowen was showing true promise as either an important advisor and spiritual guide to her younger brother or as bargaining chip in gaining connections with another kingdom or important family. The latter was something Elowen dreaded more than anything, and rumours of an "elderly" sea elf being the key to holding onto the kingdoms grip on the ocean during rough political times would truly test her diligence.
She would however never find out if these rumours were true. The events before Rite of Sundering Wroth occurred so fast that there was no reacting to be had. Elowen had been spending more and more time trying to get away from her family, finding alone time far away from the noise of the city. This had more recently led her closer to the surface, and closer to dangerous waters. It was by happenstance that this would lead her to be caught just before the events of the ritual by a scouting vessel. Elowen was defenceless and proved an easy catch. She was unaware of the extremity of the conflict at hand, demanding "return me to the waters at once or feel the wrath of my father, the Tidal Sovereign!"
Her demands had always been accepted right away if she used her fathers title, but this time to her surprise the sailors of the ship had no fear in their eyes, some of them even laughing and jeering at the very idea. The event occurred shortly after they reached land, the captain declared that Elowen must watch to which they left her in a caged cell for the entire day and night that followed with full view of the event.
The magnitude of the event was something that was hard to fathom, hard to understand. She was thrown into a dark cell in an old ruin while the crew awaited transport. She overheard the crew discussing what might happen to her. Apparently there was curiosity towards her royal merfolk blood and its apparent healing properties, while some jeered at the irony of a princess being reduced to a slave.
She would never find out what would have happened to her. Fate has other plans. Her spiritual learnings mixed with her despair. She cried and cried, in her mind evoking the very being of The Banished Mother, until she started to feel a strange presence in the dark dusty cell. Reaching out to a statue which seemed to be at its heart, the dragon spoke to her and renewed her royal purpose.

More petite than your average merfolk. Generally meek looking and delicate, especially while on land.

Physical quirks
Her scales have a pattern which creates the feeling of plant life and flowers blooming underwater.
Her red hair is often hard to tame when not in water and twirls majestically.
Her skin is so pale and soft that it almost feels like a layered translucent vale. It creates a glowing affect which might look somewhat unnatural to the people of land. This was once a common feature among royal merfolk, amplifying their cultural divine authority at the time.

Failures & Embarrassments
Captured due to roaming too close to the surface in disallowed areas of the reef. The feeling of being unable to defend herself still haunts her, but being unable to have any impact of defending her home, her people, her family. This is something she quietly still believes as a personal series of failures.
Sometimes on the darkest of nights she feels like she should have just perished with the rest of her family, a guilt which lingers throughout the next day.
Mental Trauma
Experienced the extermination of her people and absolute destruction of her home country while being taken away with the intention of experimentation and slavery. An event which to her would have only taken place very recently.

Sometimes sharp, sometimes clumsy. Always curious to learn more and careful not to offend.
Being from 300 years ago, there are many technologies which she isn't completely aware of and will likely still have to discover. Yet she also finds that some technology has gone backwards, or feels like it has, from what they had back in Nerothystia.
