Personal history
Aaron Macdara
Aaron Macdara was born on a nameless day. This was one of the less obvious days at first but later it was put together that it was a nameless day because still water did not ripple, even when disturbed. He doesn’t remember his parents much, in fact he only remembers his mother. When he was born his father left, saying that no son of his could be a voidling so clearly his mother had cheated. His mother kept him for as long as possible, even though his pointy ears gave away him away as a half elf, and the rest of the village stayed as far away from him as possible. However, when he turned four the authorities came to take him away, his mother didn’t put up a fight and the only thing he can remember from back then is how he used to hide behind her legs.
He was delivered to the castle of king Ferkham and the first few years went by without much trouble. Most of the voidlings wouldn’t present their magic until they were teenagers, the time was mostly spent learning how things worked at court and what specific rules they had to follow.
Most times he would get into trouble instead, sneaking around hidden passages and getting in rooms he wasn’t allowed to even know about. He was fortunate enough that a good cap or long hair could hide his features enough to blend in, he used this to his advantage to blend in with visitors to the castle because they didn’t recognize him on sight. Most times these visitors were traveling performers, some of them even other voidlings from other kingdoms as an allied gift to each other. When he was lucky they would teach him some of their acts, ironically enough he was still learning something even though his official teachers would never approve of the source material.
Around 12 years old the other voidlings began to show their magic but Macdara was a late bloomer. All the others of his year started to be sent off to their respective professions leaving him behind. When he did begin to show he tried his best to hide it, the magic was portraying itself in his nimbleness and inhuman speed.
Aeson
This plane is like Toril in a lot of ways but one main thing is different: magic is not innate to this place. On 5 days in the year there are exceptions, these days are never known in advance and happen between the months that are 30 days precisely. No one has been able to predict these days and signs of these days are always different. The most obvious ones are when eclipses that shouldn’t be possible happen, the ones where there were multiple moons instead of the singular one they are used to occupies the sky, or when the sun is flickering like a candle. Those days are noticed the quickest. Sometimes it is as simple as roosters refusing to crow in the morning or hollow places that won’t echo for a day, birds refusing to fly or fish swimming in circles despite the current. A lot of times, it is only noticed in hindsight that a nameless day happened.
The children born on these days do possess magic. Some say that they take the magic from the day so it may return normally the day after, that these children would need this magic because they were void of fate. And when there are two nameless days in a row, they would whisper that not enough voidlings were born to divide the magic between the first day.
The children born on these days belong to the ruler of the lands they live in and have to be handed over before their 4th birthday, here they are raised to be the tools and weapons of the realm. Some more powerful than others, they would be given a role. If they were lucky and didn’t have a lot of magic, they would be simple entertainment. Maybe traveling around the realm in the king’s circus or performing parlor tricks at court. If they showed more promise, they would be loaned out to apprentice under various blacksmiths, stonemasons or even the guard before returning to do these jobs better than their teachers ever could. The most powerful children were given unique roles, roles that could only be taught by other voidlings, those children never left the castle.
Most parents give up their children as soon as possible, scared of what they are capable of. To the common people they are like royalty, to the actual royalty of the lands they were like stags in the king’s woods: to be treated with respect until they got permission to do otherwise.
Sometimes these children ran away or even rarer the parents hid them, in these cases they are hunted down by authorities and bounty hunters or even turned in by civilians who need money and supplies.
Because magic is rare in this plane, most of the people living here are humans, dwarves, halflings, goliaths and orcs. Races like (half)elves, tieflings, gnomes and dragonborn and the likes are only possible if the person is a voidling but in a way that tieflings in Toril can be born from human parents. It is still possible for a voidling to be born completely human but this is rarer.
Godly magic does not exist in this realm and there is no pantheon like there is. There is a god they pray to in a biblical sense named Neion but there is no proof that he exists like there is proof of the gods in Toril.
Machines and other inventions also don’t exist here, this is mostly a high fantasy realm that works by the feudal system.
Escape
When Morigan was ten she found him while he was still on guard with a panicked look in her eyes. After excusing himself for an early break she showed him the orb of light she could summon. Macdara didn’t remember the voidlings of his year well but he knew that the ones who showed early were whisked away, only showing up again with scars and hollow eyes years later. From the look in Morigan eyes he saw that she also knew this and didn’t want it.
That night they met up and snuck out of the castle and went on the run. It was not easy but Macdara could hide his ears and pass to get supplies as they camped around. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months and soon they were on the run for four years. Morgan’s magic began slowly but at this point it was more volitile than ever, they had no way to train as Macdara’s magic was more physical based but Morigan would light up the sky with orbs of magic, it was not easy to stay ahead of authority but they managed to do it by constantly moving around.
One week was specifically difficult, Morigan’s magic began to follow creatures around and it was like a spotlight was lit on their location. It all came down to one night where Macdara was supposed to keep watch but he suddenly found himself roughly woken up by hands he didn’t know. When he looked up he saw Morigan tied up and being dragged away screaming while the bounty hunter waking him up tried to tie him up too, how had he not heard Morigan? Then he noticed that even though her mouth was moving, there was no noise was coming out. It was utterly silent around them, it was a nameless day and its phenomena was silence.
Macdara quickly gathered his senses and began moving towards his sister, knocking out the bounty hunters around him. He reached her and immediately began untying her, trying to apologize for falling asleep while on watch and reassuring her he would get them out of here but no noise reached her ears. He only got one of her hands loose before he was ambushed from behind in the silence by the remaining bounty hunters. In the last second he could see Morigan reacting to something behind him but he was too slow, they were dragged apart as they were overpowered. Then it happened, Morigan threw out her free arm to him and a flashing light enveloped him. The only thing he could see was bright light and then suddenly she was gone, it was light out and he was alone laying in a grass field.
Macdara quickly learned that he was somewhere else when he reached the closes village called Greenest and nothing was like he knew it. After explaining what he could they advised him to maybe go to Waterdeep, even though they didn’t understand what he was looking for. Weeks later he arrived in Waterdeep where someone named Bunny found him and told him about the Keepers of the Feather, she didn’t have to explain much and as soon as he heard about interplaner travel he knew he had to join up. He doesn’t understand a lot but he can at least punch a few people for them, anything in exchange to get back and save his sister.
Employment
Active service
At 14 years old he was caught by the guards as he was practicing some new dance moves he learned that week while he he was running home, performing the steps perfectly as he sped along. The day after that he was assigned to the captain of the guard Landon Mumford to apprentice there. He hated every minute of it and the more he excelled, the more he acted out and the more he acted out the more he was punished for it. Eventually the apprenticeship was done when he was around 20 and if he hadn’t been so rebellious he would have been assigned to the personal guard of the king, a group of voidlings better than any normal guard trained by Landon. However Macdara was seen as too unpredictable and was put with the guards at the gate. None of the other guards wanted something to do with him so he kept to himself, in his free time he would sneak around to an abandoned theater in the castle and try to remember the dance steps taught to him by the visiting performers.
Intellectual Characteristics
Manifestations
Sorrow & Grief
- One of the first times it would have been when he was a child and was being actively shunned for being a half elf. Looking at all the other children playing around and knowing he could never have a ‘normal’ childhood.
- Being taken away from his mother while she didn’t lift a finger to keep him from the guards. How in his mind he only remembers her skirt clearly because he hid behind it so often. How could she have loved him if she just let him go like that?
- When he was 14 all the other voidlings of his year had been assigned to their ‘jobs’. He was utterly alone in those last months before he was found out.
- Any time he had to explain to Morigan how to hide parts of herself even though it kept her safer and how she wouldn’t even be fazed by it, knowing the consequences. He wanted to give her the childhood he never had but he knew he could never do that.
- The first moment he realized that he lost Morigan.
Connection & Love
- The first time Macdara and Morigan opened up to each other. They had voidlings of their year that they could talk to but with each other they were safe.,
- The pride he felt when Morigan would learn his tricks so much faster than he did when he was younger. She is 10 times smarter than him and they both know it.
Destiny & Purpose
- The night Morigan and Macdara escaped was the first time he knew for sure that he was doing something right, no matter how it ended he would never regret that choice.,
- Macdara never felt so much purpose as when he first formed the loose plan to return to Morigan. Hell he only has two steps for now and they are 1. Find Morigan and 2. Save her.
Curiosity & Knowledge
- Any time Morigan would practice her magic around him. He marveled at her ability to summon magic so easily.,
- Even though he hated his basic training, learning how to neutralise an enemy as soon and cleanly as possible never bored him.,
- Every time he convinced a traveling performer to teach him a trick or skill he would hyperfocus on it until he either passed out from exhaustion or until he could perform the trick/skill correctly.
Hope & Fate
- Macdara doesn’t hope for a lot. He know that any success comes from doing it himself. Waiting around and hoping will only waste time, working to reach a goal will get shit done.,
- Even though point one it true there are a few things he couldn’t have worked for, meeting Morigan, a big part of his life and personality, was pure luck and he knows it.,
- Even though he tries to suppress any inkling of hope and work for stuff himself, he hopes to Neion that she is alive and safe even though he doesn’t even believe in the gods.
person.sexuality
Macdara is bisexual but never really had the chance to ‘realize’ it, most normal humans avoided him bc he was a voidling, other voidlings felt like (distant) family due to growing up together and when he was on the run he didn’t have the luxury to think about that kind of stuff anyways.
Taboos
Macdara distusts the ends of the month, specifically the day(s) after the first 30 days of the month are done. He is always looking for signs that a nameless day has started

Morigan
One day Macdara noticed that he was being watched by someone in the rafters and it took a few more weeks more for the little girl to finally show herself. She was a dark red tiefling of about 7 years old and clearly a voidling. She introduced herself as Morigan and asked if he could teach her how to move like that. With a chuckle Macdara agreed.

One lesson turned into two lessons, turned into hanging out together with him showing all the hidden spots he found when he was her age. Morigan admitted after a year of hanging out that her parents tried to hide her away from Ferkham but she was found when she was six and that she wasn’t sure if they were still alive. After a while they settled into a pattern and without knowing it at the time, they both gained a sibling.
Even though Macdara is the older of the two and the adult, he respects Morigan's decisions. With the way they've grown up he doesn't want to force her into situations she doesn't have a say in. He also knows that between the two of them, she is the 'smart one'. Both of them would come up with plans but he knew those plans would come to her easier and most of the time he would trust any of her pans without question.
