Personal history
Kensaku was a child born and raised in Kotoshi village. Life in Kotoshi was hard and dull, and Kensaku would often stare into the waters wondering if ther was more to the world. His question would be answer on a fateful day when the Shogun passed through Kotoshi village while visiting the settlements around Tsutsumi. This meeting opened Kensaku's eyes to a world he had never seen before, the shogun and his retainers wore clothes he could never fathom touching, they carried themselves that drew his respect. Kensaku wanted it, he wanted to be part of that life, to escape his humble upbringing.
In the following years he would leave Kotoshi and work in Kibouki where he would often meet memebers of the military and survery division, building up his rapport. When he turned 18, Kensaku left for Tsutsumi city where he joined the administrations section of Tsutsumi. Although he had made it, Kensaku was very quickly taught that life wasn't fair, and that even in Tsutsumi city, people would look down on him as a Southener. Left with no choice Kensaku would resort to underhanded tactics to gather favour and reputation. Before he would see himself appointed the Shogun's advisor, the man closest to the head of Tsutsumi.
Satisfied with his position in life Kensaku would return to Kotoshi to visit his former friends and family. To his dismay, many of those he had known had already passed due to sickness or poor health. The people that remained, Kensaku didn't recognise, the village had changed so drastically in only a few decades. This was a truth Kensaku was forced to learn, that the people of the Southern Divide live much shorter lives than those in the North, that their life was a mere speck. Wishing to clear his mind, Kensaku decided to visit his old spot where he would watch the ocean, however he would be shocked to find that place no longer existed. The tides around the island had drawn closer inwards, swallowing up much of the former land near Kotoshi. Initially had had thought this was just an unfortunately effect of the tides changing.
Disheartened, Kensaku returned to the capital where he locked himself in his study. A certain thought wouldn't leave his mind, how quickly the waters had swallowed the land. He quickly gathered materials and old maps of Tsutsumi. After days of studying in isolation, he had came to a single conclusion...that Tsutsumi was sinking, and that it would be completely swallowed by the ocean in a mere decade. Desperate for a solution Kensaku would comb through any book and tome he could find anything at all. He landed on only one solution, one that he deeply hated. Time magic.
Kensaku knew full well that the manipulation of time was strictly prohibited by Mystra herself, but the only idea Kensaku had was the freeze Tsutsumi itself and separate it from the natural flow of time of the rest of the world. The ritual he intended to use could only encapsulate a small radius, it was impossible to save the whole island. Then he remembered how small and fleeting the lives of the Southern Divide were. After much deliberation he decided to save the few rather than save none at all, to let the Southern Divide die while saving the Northen Divide.
Kensaku proposed this idea to the shogun however he was met with objection at the idea of abandoning their people. Anticipating this however Kensaku had Hiryu assassinate the Shogun and announced to the nation that he had fallen extremely ill. With the nation fooled and the shogun dead, Kensaku was alone at the top to rule Tsutsumi as he saw fit.
