Dirty, smelly and cannot speak. Appeared as an egg from the planar portals of Majital. Survived off of trash until taken in by a kind old man at the Mages Guild. Responds to kindness with disproportionate gratitude.

The sudden appearance of individuals in front of the planar portals of Majital is far from unheard of. However, perhaps one of the strangest cases in recent memory involves something of a local celebrity: the so-called "Trash Dragon" of the Mages Guild...
 
As the story goes, a few members of the Mages Guild were conducting a study of the planar portals when they spotted something curious: a single, large golden egg casually laying in front of one of the portals. As they approached the egg, it immediately began to crack. However, the mages from the guild would not get to see what eventually emerged from the egg. Just as the egg began to crack open, they found themselves assaulted by an intensely suffocating sulfuric smell. The stench was so intolerable (and evidently could not be nullified or weakened with any magic) that the men fled the scene with great haste, leaving the egg and whatever was within behind.
 
Not many days passed before reports surfaced of a strange kobold-like creature lurking in a nearby city's alleyways, rummaging through garbage and filth in search of food. The notion that this creature was a kobold came from the fact that he was still small in stature and the fact that the grime he was often covered in, hid the golden color of his scales. "Scruffy" as he was dubbed by the city's populace due to his filthy appearance, shortly became the talk of the town as a local curiosity. However, word that he may have come from an egg that had appeared from the planar portals quickly spread. Scruffy's stench, general shabbiness combined with the citizens' immense distrust of all portal born to ensure that he would live a difficult life, even for a pauper. Children would entertain themselves by throwing rocks at him, awarding themselves points based on accuracy and damage. Adults would regularly chase him off with weapons whenever they found him digging through or sleeping in their garbage behind their dwellings or places of business. It would seem Scruffy bears a number of scars from these encounters, including a missing ring finger on his left hand and a missing chunk of his tail. Though Scruffy is also known to be incapable of speech, instead only being able to utter unintelligible rasping sounds, it is currently unknown whether this is due to an injury he suffered or some manner of birth defect.
 
Scruffy lived in such a manner until an old veteran of the Mages Guild, well known for his kindness and generosity, came upon the poor creature one day and decided to take him in, much to the chagrin of the rest of the guild. The kindly old guild veteran proved Scruffy's only friend in the Mage's Guild, even taking time to tutor him personally. Scruffy's mentor was surprised to discover that he was a surprisingly intelligent and diligent student. Though he was unable to learn any spells, he learned a great deal on the subject of the Arcane as well as how to wield a staves and swords. Scruffy reportedly excelled in his martial studies, eventually leading to him taking on various jobs about town such has hunting thieves and brigands. Though the people still looked at Scruffy with disgust, he at least developed a reputation for being hard-working and reliable in his dealings.
 
It's unclear what the future will hold for this bizarre creature or how the strange manner of its birth might prove significant if it is indeed significant at all. What is known is that if one visits the area around the Mage's Guild in Majital, one may find themselves confronted by an incredibly shabby-looking Dragonborn. They can expect this Dragonborn to hand them a business card. On this business card it will read:
 
"Scruffy the Trash Dragon"
 
"Murder & Other Tasks"
 
"Payment Accepted in Gold or Food"
