The wizard from another world
Aasimar are vanishingly rare in the world of Greyhawk. Most blend seamlessly into human society, their celestial heritage hidden, which only makes the few known in the Flanaess more exotic.
Rio hails not from Oerth at all, but from Arborea—a distant, radiant plane of existence. There he studied at the Lyceum of Everflame, Arborea’s most prestigious academy. Restless and defiant, he was notorious for pushing boundaries, chasing what others deemed impossible. Professors mocked his strange theories and peers dismissed his experiments, but his thirst for novelty never waned.
Drawn to the legends of planar mages like Tasha, Mordenkainen, and Otto, Rio often skipped lectures to tinker with forbidden spellwork. One fateful night, curiosity carried him into the academy’s sealed library. There, a strange spellbook seemed to call to him. Its pages were beyond his comprehension—yet tantalizingly close. In reckless boldness, he read aloud a single incantation.
The words tore reality open. A vortex consumed him, hurling him to the Material Plane—specifically, into a secret chamber in the city of Greyhawk, where two powerful men were in private council: the archmage Otto and the influential Rigby Morris. Mistaken for a spy, Rio was spared only when Otto bound his tongue with a geas and, intrigued, kept him close as a kind of intern.
Thrown into a strange and imperfect world, Rio embraced it with cautious wonder. Greyhawk was no Arborea, but he resolved to adapt. Rigby helped him navigate culture and society, often employing him at grand functions to ease his awkwardness. Now, with Otto as his reluctant mentor, Rio begins an internship at the Great Library of Greyhawk—determined to prove that the visions once mocked in Arborea are within his grasp after all.
