The Journal Entry’s title

by Yaldranth Fandelgrant

  • Wake up and try to wake Tonk, he's fast asleep

  • Ask Tenzi to help - She manages to wake him finally. We plead with him to leave and, as he grumbles about having spent his last coin on *paint supplies* I tell him that I will pay for the next inn. As per usual.

  • We make our way to the Magic city of Erelmel, about 5 hours away from where we were camped

  • As we approach, it seems like the entire city is covered in a magic dome of sorts, with people crowded around the entrance in a line waiting to get in.

  • A lot of these folk seem like the manual labourer type - crafters, artisans, etc. who have been expelled from the city due to the commandeering of a local archaeological dig site which they were originally contracted to.

  • The site was commandeered by a "**Hestia**" of sorts

  • There is a guard at the front of the queue - he waves a stick at me, security guard at an airport style

  • Entering the city, the first thing that I notice is the temperature - as the outside was pretty cold, the inside is a pleasant warm temperature.

  • The city seems quite large, it has lots of lamps surrounding the roads which are lit, not by fire, but by magic, as I see some what look to be wizards sticking their hands in them to keep them lit.

  • There also seems to be a series of towers, that must be what I'm looking for.

  • We go and find an inn, we get a middling one. About 5 silver per person

  • I ask around and the big spire in the centre is the library. Some parts are public and some are not but it's more-so the town/city hall. People go there to petition, etc.

  • as we continue on, we see a sort of thing that looks like a billboard - except more holographical like... with ads...

  • There also seems to be a post which reads "**Berringdon** trial today - Famous architect to be tried for..."

  • There was a discovery of a fissure west of the western arm - the manacore. The majority of the scholars went to study the thing, except it is very hard to study and do precise measurements on a boat so they set up a temporary island and a tower near it to study it.

  • Unfortunately the architect was a little magically elitist and construct the entire thing out of magical material.

  • This lead to a load of problems since, being next to the manacore, the magical tower completely collapsed and tunred it into an embarrassment for the entire town.

  • We make our way to the tower eventually, passing through a marketplace on the way. Every salesperson here knows illusary magic, making it difficult to pass through.

  • At the tower, there is a an ad for the harper's guild as well as what looks like to Yaldranth, a cube. Tonk goes to the cube and Tenzi to the Harper's.

  • There is a General Enquiries post which Yaldranth goes to. He asks about the sword in the village of Jahrenbelle, to which the person at the post tells him to wait and fill in a form.

  • I now have a library card... with my face on it... somehow...

  • We search the library and it is *wall to wall* with books. Somehow we manage to find a series of books relating to the expedition that led to my village. The books are by a guy called Oswald. As we approach the end of the hallway, we hear some shouting - what appears to be literal adult wizards hurling playground level insults at each-other...

  • These wizards seem to have been in a debate which has turned heated

  • We basically stop the wizards from duelling properly - although there is a large hole in the ground now...

  • The books that we want have been loaned out... BUT there is a nameplate indicating who has it. Otis Lethe is his name!

  • As for the expedition, we are able to gain information. Circa 200 years ago, Oswald led an expedition out to our village in search of a particularly powerful artefact in the Sanctuary. There was a village outside the sanctuary of barbarians, a gatekeeping village, more or less. After making contact and gaining entry, he came to our village where he found our artefact blade, The Planar Blade. It is able to cut through the fabric of planes, able to create interplanar portals. Also noted that it is far too powerful to be kept anywhere near society. As he figures that it has been in this village long enough, it is more or less better to just leave it there, leaving with an offer for aid - proof acquired!

  • mentions very strong attunement to natural magic - true!

  • diets seem to be mostly vegetarian - mostly true seems to have shifted more or less

  • likely to be near to a leyline nexus - I have no idea lmao

  • buildings seem to have been standing a long time - mostly true

  • We go to the counter and ask for the address of the Otis Lethe. Somehow the guy at the counter just lets us have it on the notion that we bring the book back

  • After sleeping, we make our way to the guy's house. Tonk notices something a little off. I don’t know what he's getting at but I choose to trust him.

  • After knocking the knocker, the door opens after some time revealing what appears to be a stereotypical wizard

  • Tonk notices that the man has a brand on his hand - He tells me that I should not mess with this man

  • This wizard is also searching for the man with the dragon eye. He says that he has taken something from the wizard and that he must locate him with the help of a magic circle which draws collectively on everyone's memories of the man. Since he doesn't have a clear enough picture of the man he asks me to fill in for him. I agree on the condition that he loan out the book to us for a single day to get what we are searching for.

  • We follow him into his house. Cautiously.

  • The house looks like it hasn't been used in a while. Furniture covered with cobwebs etc. Otis says he hasn't lived here very long.

  • We enter the basement and the ritual begins. The ground starts to shake and I black out briefly. When I come to, I sense that my ability to cast natural magic, any magic, has been taken from me.

  • The caster, Otis, starts trodding towards me and starts changing forms rapidly. A hulk of a man, a wizard, a roguish man with a brand on his hand. He shouts a spiel about a mirror and how the man with the dragon eye took everything from him.

  • COMBAT!

  • Congratulation!

  • We get the book after cleaving the guy in two

  • Based on analysis, there is zero doubt that this is a pre-cataclysm artefact.

  • Oswald notes that there will be *many* prying eyes looking for this blade. Securitas, etc.

  • This could be used to cut gateways to other planes with ease and summon gates.

  • Knowing that the cataclysm has damaged the very fabric of the world, there are things beyond our plane that should *very much be left there*

  • The main problem with this is that it is a very easy way to unseal *anything, ever*

  • It is basically a skeleton key to every lock ever. Including interplanar ones.

  • There seems to be an Elaina, related to Oswald, the writer of the books, who set up in Aselthas
  • The major events and journals in Yaldranth's history, from the beginning to today.
