Personal history
Cedric Claysmith was the middle child of seven in a household that never quite had enough to go around. With limited means and many mouths to feed, his parents entrusted him to the Church of the Silver Flame—an arrangement common among poorer families seeking a better future for their children. In return for a modest stipend, the Claysmiths surrendered Cedric to the clergy, where he became a ward of the Silver Flame and began formal training as future clergy.
Cedric took naturally to divine studies. He excelled in history, liturgy, and the practical rites of the Flame, though the deeper philosophical discussions of priesthood never captured his interest in the same way. His instructors nonetheless recognized promise in him—enough that they envisioned a future for Cedric not as a temple-bound priest, but as a representative of the Flame out in the wider world.
With this in mind, the Church arranged for him to apply to several adventuring academies, hoping he might serve the Silver Flame through the Sovereign Hand in time. His first attempt, at Blackbramble School Academy, ended in a surprising rejection—surprising enough that some mentors quietly wondered whether Cedric had deliberately undermined his own exam.
But whatever happened at Blackbramble, Mage Academy came to a different conclusion. They accepted Cedric without hesitation, noting qualities in him that made him a promising fit for their halls. And so, with the Church’s blessing, Cedric Claysmith set out from his cloistered upbringing and began the next chapter of his training at Mage Academy.
