Dergmann is a duergar who has been living on the surface for ~43 years. As both an archaeologist and a scholar, he is fascinated by ruins, dungeons and rocks. Travelling from place to place he documents these fascinating structures alongside his golems.
Dergmann is an artificer golemancer who specialises in using golems as conduits for his spells and performing manual labour for him (mainly once he reaches lvl 3). These golems are made of rock but centre around gemstones that infuse them with greater ability.
He originates from the underdark but escaped after becoming fascinated with surface culture. Nowadays he moves from place to place, never settling in one location for too long. He is particularly fascinated by ruins and dungeons, using his love of rocks to analyse these locations and documenting them extensively.
While Dergmann is a scholar, he had not lost his dwarven constitution so you will find him in the tavern many nights, losing his often formal personality.

Personal history
As a child, Dergmann encountered a band of adventurers in the dark tunnels of the underdark who showed him kindness and told him of the surface world before delving deeper into the depths. Fascinated with this new world he was told of, Dergmann grew to hate the spiteful and soulless society of duergar. He spent many years slowly tunneling his way out of the settlement, afraid of being caught and punished. Along the way he encountered many gemstones that fascinated him and later inspired him to experiment on them for the creation of golems.
Finally free after years of toil, Dergmann explored the world, never settling down. He always felt the dwarf calling for the mines and in turn, felt an attraction to both ruins and dungeons. He self-appointed himself an archaeologist and set about documenting these structures and the items they contain. Before long, Dergmann settled into a scholarly life while maintaining a more hands-on approach to his studies.
Education
Dergmann received very little education in the underdark besides the basics of reading and writing. However once he escaped he immediately gathered a vast amount of knowledge in his excited frenzy. His knowledge is particularly focused on geology but he has become proficient in many different trade tools as well.
Dergmann taught himself the art of golemancy, inspired by the gemstones he found underground. He uses these gems as a core which are surrounded by rocks, infused with a mixture of magic and pure engineering, this allows the golems to receive some automation. Dergmann uses these for magical conduits, protection and trivial tasks, making him a bit lazy in consequence
Employment
Dergmann is a self-appointed archaeologist and makes a living by selling his services and selling minor artifacts he finds in his explorations. Unsurprisingly he doesn't make much money this way and lives a modest life with very few savings but always has some reserves ready for a night out in the tavern.
Morality & Philosophy
Dergmann is very neutral in his ideologies, he hates the spiteful attitude and unnecesarry hate that many of the other duergar show but he is no knight in shining armour.
He is mainly dedicated to his research and golem creation, performing altruistic acts whenever he can but not willing to stake his life on the safety of a random stranger.

-Dwarvish
-Undercommon
-Abyssal
(Dergmann learned abyssal in his studies as he found many crypts and ruins to be linked to both demonic activity and cultist origins. It also appears in many old tomes that regular common history texts do not acknowledge. It is also a cool party trick to pull out in the tavern.

Social
Birthplace
The Underdark
Current Residence
No fixed home, always travelling
Wealth & Financial state
Just like real life, this archaeologist is barely scraping by. He earns enough to live day to day and to drink away each night but he often has to offer services rather than coin to obtain his supplies.
Family Ties
Any relation Dergmann once had is almost forgotten now. He escaped with barely a second thought about the soulless place he left where the term "family" held very little importance.
Social Aptitude
Dergmann can be very strict, especially when working on his research and studies; this leads people to believe he's a very uptight person but once he's friendly with a person and outside the study he's a mirthful fellow. He is a joy at a party like the typical raucous dwarves.
However, Dergmann rarely cares to study the art of speechcraft, often stating his feelings bluntly and refusing to dumb down his research. This makes him terrible at any diplomatic role outside of friendly conversation.
