Growing up in a cruel ever changing city, Zaffra felt outcast as she struggled to find herself. She desired revenge on those who had wronged her by seeking out a powerful ritual caster to transform herself into a dragon. Zaffra sought long to find a ritual caster who would be willing to perform such a ritual; she had to settle for an insane caster of lesser power than originally planned. In order to supplement the lack of raw power needed for the ritual, the caster told Zaffra she needed to find an item that belonged to a dragon of immense power. Zaffra set out to find such an item. As she traveled, she heard tales of a powerful green dragon and his hoard of belongings located in an underground lair. Zaffra located the lair and to her surprise, the hoard of treasure was unguarded. A gold ring in the shape of a dragon’s eye with a red ruby encrusted called to Zaffra amongst the various items of treasure; Zaffra took the ring.
 
The caster told Zaffra the ring would be used for the ritual. Zaffra explained how she wanted to become a Copper Dragon, (in her own twisted mind, her wreaking havoc on the city was well deserved and therefore she viewed herself as good). The caster explained that the ritual would split her soul and bind one half with that of the ring she stole. Half way through the ritual, green smoke started to erupt from the ring. A phantasmal figure made of smoke and ash took the form of a green dragon in front of Zaffra and the caster. The dragon roared as its mouth opened and consumed Zaffra’s body filling the space with smoke. As the smoke cleared Zaffra lay on the ground, half of her face covered in copper/green scales. The caster had vanished along with the ring. Zaffra filled with immense rage screamed and a roar escaped from her throat as a green flame burst from her being, she began to feel raw power run through her veins. The shack where Zaffra lay on the floor burst into flames as she slowly faded into unconsciousness.
 
Zaffra awoke to commoners and a sorcerer named Kava standing over her having pulled her body from the fire. Her memory clouded with what had happened to her, Zaffra found a list of ingredients in her hand she vaguely remembered ripping from the caster’s hand before he disappeared. A deep voice spoke to her, “You must find the one who keeps secrets”. The voice no one else could hear told her she must find the caster and fix the ring in order to heal herself. But Zaffra does not have much time, if her scales are to change completely from copper to green Zaffra’s old self will be lost to mere memories.
